In this sermon we look at Jesus’ authority over who enters the kingdom and the calling of Matthew.
What Holds a Church Together?
What does Paul focus on to bring the church in Rome to unity and for him to establish a relationship with them? The answer, again, is the gospel, but specifically in this passage Paul will explain how the gospel “affect[s] the Roman Christians to whom he is writing”. Let’s use this passage, therefore, to answer the question, What holds a church together?

Your Relationship to the Gospel
As we consider this passage, we should consider our own relationship to the gospel. Are you like some: in general agreement with Christianity but you haven’t yet joined the game? Or, as a Christian, perhaps you believe the truths of the gospel, but you wouldn’t say they necessarily define you or control you. Or have other issues become more important to you than the gospel? This opening passage addresses all of those needs. Therefore, let us work through it and consider our relationship to the gospel.
