Sermon for a New Year (Jan 2 2022)

Sermon for a New Year (Jan 2 2022)

January 2 is not only the day after New Year's Day, it's also the Ninth day of the Christmas season and, this year, the second Sunday after Christmas.  Today we look at the promises of our loving Father for every believer, regardless of what the new year brings.

    Christmas Eve Sermon 2021

    Christmas Eve Sermon 2021

At Christ the King, the Elves who take care of the church road sign put up this one a couple weeks ago:  "I'm also making a list and checking it twice - signed, God."  Although that's not a Bible verse, it's the theme of Pastor Cahill's Christmas Eve sermon this year.  And the sermon itself is a bit different - a series of intertwined readings and comments on this theme.

    Sermon December 12 - Joy #2

    Sermon December 12 - Joy #2

This fall we've been concentrating on values that we have here at Christ the King: so far, we've talked about Caring, Acceptance, and Family.  In December we turn to Joy as our worship emphasis.

Last week we heard that "joy" in the Bible is the result of what happens when Jesus shows up on the scene - whether it's John the Baptist's joy that, even while he was in prison, he knew that his job as "best man" for Jesus the Bridegroom was complete, or our joy that, even while we're still here on earth, Jesus is in the process of taking us home to heaven to join Him, the angels, and those we love who are already there.

This week we'll hear that "joy" in the Bible results not only when Jesus shows up on the scene, but even when someone just hears the news that Jesus has come.    I'm joined today by special guest Mr Randy Hall of the Gideons International.  You can learn more about the ministry of the Gideons here: https://gideons.org/

Sermon Dec 19 - Joy #3 (with Sunday School Christmas)

Sermon Dec 19 - Joy #3 (with Sunday School Christmas)

This fall we've been concentrating on values that we have here at Christ the King: so far, we've talked about Caring, Acceptance, and Family.  In December we turn to Joy as our worship emphasis.

We're getting closer to the big day - Christmas!  The day the angels sang to the shepherds "To you is born this day in the city of David a Savior - Christ the Lord!"  It's supposed to be a "message of great joy to all people" - but there are still a lot of people who can't see the joy.  The struggles, sins, and problems of their lives are overwhelming and complex, and they just can't seem to see a light at the end of the tunnel.  But the birth of Jesus tells us that, even if they can't see it yet, the light has come to lead them out of the tunnel, the valley of the shadow of darkness, into the waiting and loving arms of Jesus.

    Sermon #1 on "Joy"

    Sermon #1 on "Joy"

This fall we've been concentrating on values that we have here at Christ the King: so far, we've talked about Caring, Acceptance, and Family.  In December we turn to Joy as our worship emphasis.

We hear and see that word "Joy" a lot during the season leading up to Christmas.  It seems to show up in bright lights, colorful decorations, upbeat songs and carols, and more.  But starting with this service and sermon, we'll learn that "joy" is not just an emotion - God tells us in the Bible that joy is the product of the deep, caring, loving, sometimes hard work of our Triune God for you even in your most difficult circumstances.

    Sermon on "Family" #4

    Sermon on "Family" #4

As we conclude our month-long focus on Family as one of the things we value here at Christ the King, our readings from God's Word today look at the love that God the Father has for us who are His children, and two implications for our lives here together.
