In this episode of ‘The Final Whistle’, we sit down to have a chat with Michael Hamilton, the Academy Manager and ex Academy Head of Coaching at AFC Wimbledon. Michael provides some great insight into the life of academy players, mainly between the ages of 16-18 years. He speaks about the process of players joining grassroots, semi-pro, and pro academies and breaks down the competitive nature of them progressing into adult teams. Finally, we also discuss what lies beyond academies and how they can stay glued to the game.
