Assemblymember Ash Kalra @ash_kalra was first elected to the California Legislature in 2016, representing the 27th District in San Jose, California. Deeply committed to his role in public service, of which he began as a Deputy Public Defender for 11 years prior to being elected to the San Jose City Council, and now the State Assembly. Ash is the definition of "talk the talk AND walk the walk" as a tireless advocate on various issues that contribute to righting wrongs on so many levels. Just a few examples - he is the Chair of the State Assembly Labor & Employment Committee, previous Chair of the Aging & Long-Term Care Committee, and serves on the Judiciary, Education, and Water, Parks & Wildlife Committees. Ash also happens to be the first Indian-American to serve in the California Legislature in state history.⠀
⠀
@farahyasmeenshaikh chatted with Ash about his journey, about the state of our current government, and the IMPORTANCE OF VOTING in the upcoming election. Civic engagement is always important, but there truly is no time like the present, and this conversation with Ash Kalra will both inspire and inform.⠀
