S3 E11 How religious abuse and rascism shaped Mirinda Kossoff Culturally Speaking

    • Arts

Mirinda Kossoff was born in Greensboro, North Carolina and grew up not that far away in the small textile and tobacco town of Danville, Virginia, which she couldn't wait to escape. Her book, The Rope of Life wrestles with suicide, family, and growing up divided between the cultured Jewish side of her family and the fundamentalist Southern Baptist side. Her memoir is set against the backdrop of her small Southern town upbringing, of town and family secrets, of her relationship with her troubled father, and of not belonging—in her town or in her own family. Growing up in the Jim Crow South, Miranda shares her recollections of racism in Danville and how it impacted her closest relationships.
Mirinda’s book, The Rope of Life, can be purchased through Amazon or ordered from https://bookshop.org/books/the-rope-of-life/9781733681674. The audio book can be found at audible.com
