Maksim Chmerkovskiy talks with Allison about his childhood experience in Ukraine when it was under communist rule as part of the former USSR or Soviet Union during the 1980s, emigrating with his younger brother Val and his parents to Brooklyn, New York as a teenager, acclimating with American life, finding fame on Dancing with the Stars, being in Ukraine when Vladimir Putin invaded the country, and making his way back to the United States safely. 

Maksim also goes into detail discussing his return to the region, to Warsaw, Poland, where he began helping Ukrainian refugees, launching his 501c3 nonprofit organization, Baranova 27, with his family to bring resources to the Ukrainian people, and his future with Dancing with the Stars.
