Talk About What You Do In the Right Way #SaturdayMorningHustle

Talk About What You Do In the Right Way #SaturdayMorningHustle

There's no worse regret than "I didn't know you did that." "I didn't know I could hire you for that." You have to tell people what you do for your job and profession, how you get paid, how you create value for others and how you help people with your professional services or products if it's something you genuinely believe in.

This is not a sales pitch or a conversion process. This is not ABC "Always Be Closing". This is a value conversation, which is much better.

Be brave enough to advocate for yourself, your business or brand. If you don't do it for yourself, no one else will. Talk about what you do or what you're working on casually, in an informational way. Be bold and talk about your business or side hustle. Talk about your goals. Talk about your band, art or social media account you're trying to build. Talk about a new degree you're working on because you want to change your career. Talk about things you want to do, get people involved, get people invested. Create relationships and then go from there with a potential for success.

You know me, I'm Kyle Golding. I'm not just the guy behind the Saturday Morning Hustle. I'm also the CEO and Chief Strategic Idealist for The Golding Group, an award-winning think tank of strategic planning, business process management, integrated marketing and public relations consultants. We work with your leadership team to develop strategy, determine the most effective action plans, then execute and measure.

We create processes, systems and protocols that can be measured, adjusted and repeated by incorporating data analysis, market trends and audience feedback in a two-way conversation.

Tell people what it is you do. Tell people how it's different than other options. Tell them the value that you create. Tell them the audience you're looking for. Tell them who gets the best value out of your product or service, how you want to serve them, how you want to create for them, connect with them, build business relationships, etc...

Explain these things to people, but not in a sales pitch. Don't try to sell it directly to them. Just tell friends, tell family, tell casual acquaintances. When you're networking or at a holiday event, when you meet someone and they ask, "What did you do for a living?" don't just say you're in accounting, legal, medical, business, consulting, etc...

Tell them "I own a business; this is what we do. This is whom we serve." If the person listening finds value in that, you might have an opportunity, but they also might know someone or refer someone to your business. If you're going to be in business, if you're going to be a self-brand, if you're going to be a hustler, grinder or an entrepreneur, you got to be comfortable telling people who you are, what you do, the value you create, what's distinct about your business, what's good about doing business with you, why people should pay attention, why they should trust you. You have to be comfortable talking about it, not promotionally, not trying to make money, but being confident in what you do by connecting with people. Try to build relationships that eventually could lead to a business transaction. Put things in the correct order. Be confident. Be willing to do it for yourself, your business and your future success. Let's talk about it on the SMH podcast today!

Success From Change #SaturdayMorningHustle Flashback Episode

Success From Change #SaturdayMorningHustle Flashback Episode

A #SaturdayMorningHustle Flashback to September 23rd, 2017. The key to business success is how you handle change. Winning comes from making small movements, not large pivots or failure to change at all. Business change can come from losing or gaining a client, losing your best employee or a new competitor entering your market. Do not overreact! Stick to your business plan, strategy and marketing tactics as long as you can until it's evident that you must make a change. The market will tell you when it's time for adjustments.

When you do make changes, do it concisely and decisively. Winning at business means being able to handle change better than the other people in your space. Adapt and adjust. You can't be the "flavor of the week" and try something new all the time, but you also can't stick to "this is how we've always done it" and never make adjustments. Choose a happy medium between the two concepts. Let's talk about it on the SMH podcast today!

Distinctions And Differences Of Entrepreneurs and Business Owners #SaturdayMorningHustle

Distinctions And Differences Of Entrepreneurs and Business Owners #SaturdayMorningHustle

Did you know this week was Global Entrepreneur Week? I attended multiple GEW events every day in Oklahoma City based on entrepreneurism about promoting, supporting and developing entrepreneurs here in Oklahoma as part of the GEW Global Entrepreneur Week. So today, I want to talk to you about the similarities, differences and misconceptions about what an entrepreneur is and what a business owner is, how they go together and how they are different.

A lot of people confuse, conflate and misuse the terms “entrepreneur” and “business owner” as something that is synonymous with each other. They feel like it's the same thing, and that's not exactly true. There are some distinct differences. So let's go through that today. Obviously, a lot of entrepreneurs are business owners.

I am an entrepreneur and I am a business owner. I started my first business when I was a teenager and I have continuously owned one or more businesses in the last 37 years since I started my first business at 15. When I started that first business, I didn't understand what being an entrepreneur was. I didn't know I was being an entrepreneur. I did not know what being entrepreneurial meant. But I eventually learned those things and now I have a really good grasp on what it means to be an entrepreneur. Let's talk about it on the podcast today!

Consistency Is More Important Than Inspiration #SaturdayMorningHustle

Consistency Is More Important Than Inspiration #SaturdayMorningHustle

I hate to admit it, but there are days I don't feel motivated. I need more inspiration to do great things. But it's better to press through anyway. A bad day at work or a bad day on your hustle and grind, a lesser workout, a less productive afternoon... Whatever it is, it's still better than not doing anything.

A lack of motivation is temporary, but consistency is always beneficial. Just because you're not "feeling it" isn't a good reason to not do the work. Taking the first step is the most challenging part but the most essential.

But you do occasionally need to take breaks and recharge that hustle battery. So, how do we balance all this? What does it mean, and why am I telling you this? Let's talk about it on the podcast today!

Bedlam Is Bad For Business #SaturdayMorningHustle

Bedlam Is Bad For Business #SaturdayMorningHustle

In sports, it's good to focus on your competition and to have a game plan for beating them. It's also a lot of fun to add some good-natured animosity, rivalry and trash-talk between players and fans. But in business, that's all a waste of time and a diversion from what you should be focused on to be successful: your strengths/weaknesses, market position and value proposition to attract, convert and retain the best possible audience for how you do business and NOT beating your competition or winning a single sale.

Let's use the OU vs. OSU Bedlam football game today as a metaphor for what not to do in business. You don't have to be a sports fan to get value from this conversation. Give the episode a listen, then let's talk about it.

    - Be consistent, with pleasant surprises
    - Don't sell
    - Sharing is caring (bonus)
