Episode #155 - Revisiting 'Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker'

Episode #155 - Revisiting 'Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker'

In this episode, Rachael and Kirsty revisit 'Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker' - and our complex feelings about it!

We run through the build up to the film, covering everything from J.J. Abrams coming aboard when Colin Trevorrow was unceremoniously booted off the project to the persistent mystery of Matt Smith's involvement. We run through the astonishingly detailed spoilers that emerged about TROS months prior to its release, breaking down some of the more interesting differences between the leaked version of the story and what ended up in cinemas.

With the pre-release period wrapped up, we then move into a discussion of our feelings about it - how we felt at the time, and how we feel about now with the distance of time. While our criticisms haven't changed substantially, we remain hopefully that Episode IX doesn't represent the final chapter for the heroes of the sequel trilogy.

A valuable perspective on Star Wars

I don’t think many guys like myself would have noticed the lack of women characters in the first two episodes of The Mandalorian.

These two hosts did, and as they predicted, it seems it was a deliberate choice to reinforce the paternal themes before balancing out the cast.

That’s exactly the kind of insight I wanted.

Great podcast, thank you!

Absolutely wonderful discussions

I truly love how insightful all the discussions are and how thoughtful the commentary is. As a woman in the fandom it’s incredible to find a place to hear detailed and insightful discourse from other women w/out the silencing and gatekeeping that typically results. The hosts go to great lengths to consider innumerable angles & be mindful of other ppls views and processes. I’m starting from the beginning and it’s interesting how precisely on point they’ve been regarding their speculations back at the start & where the ST actually went. Def in my top 3 of ALL podcasts i listen to. Thx ladies!
