It's 1918 and people in Dixon Mills, AL are dying suddenly and no one knows why. Meanwhile, Lennie Gray learns that Mary, Curly's grandmother, knew her mother who was passing as a white woman and died giving birth to her. However, Ida doesn't want Lennie Gray to ask questions about the past or her mother.
