Sunday Service Podcast January 9th – Whitestone

"I think what we've learned over these past couple of years, is:  yeah, you set this intention, and then you better be ready to shift and change with whatever is happneing in the world."

Senior Minister Rev. Karen Lindvig returns to lead our annual Whitestone ceremony, which has new meaning in this time of Covid. She draws inspiration from some first-person stories of wild weather this week, unexpected obstacles and suprising kindness.  In keeping with our current theme of the Alchemy of Wisdom, she pulls in plenty of quotes from scripture, from Charles Fillmore, and even a new article from the New York Times, which brings our Whitestone tradition to the mainstream audience.

Gayle Macy gives the reading, from the Daily Word.

The talk begins at 23:25 in this podcast.

Our Worship Arts team this time features returning guest Tommie Burton.

Sunday Service Podcast January 16th – Holy Wisdom

"Who in your world embodies this type of Divine wisdom?  Somebody who is without ego or this sense of separation? And a bigger question is: when have you embodied Sophia?"

Senior Minister Rev. Karen Lindvig caps off the 2021 theme of the Alchemy of the Soul, by looking at the Alchemy of Wisdom. The talk includes brief recaps of the various Alchemy units from 2021, and borrows quotes from far flung sources ranging from Hildegard von Bingen to Martin Luther King Jr.  She pulls inspiration from the Gnostic gospels, as well as popular contemporary writers, and helps us see how true wisdom emanates from the joining of heart and mind.

Sunday Service Podcast October 24th – Make Room for Darkness

Sunday Service Podcast October 24th – Make Room for Darkness

"The Alchemy of Transformation invites us to let go and accept life as it is, before we can change it."

Rev. Karen returns from her various sojourns to open the doors to this next series. As she explains it, again using the core metaphor of lead-into-gold, The Alchemy of Transformation "takes the lead of things that are no longer working or needed in our lives, and transforms it into the gold of the more awakened, centered, and kind self". She also begins dipping into the wealth of materials she has gained in her trip to Greece, this time introducing us to Aesculapius, and related ideas around healing, dreaming, and the doors to the underworld.

Steve Peha gives the reading, The Guest House, a translation of Rumi, by Coleman Barks.

The talk begins at 19:17 in this podcast.

Our Worship Arts team this time features special guest Shauncye Omar.  Full service video is here.

Sunday Service Podcast November 14th – The Other Side of Transformation

Sunday Service Podcast November 14th – The Other Side of Transformation

"Re-assessment, re-thinking, making changes, taking chances, all of these are pre-cursors to a transformation. And so it's no longer business as usual."

Senior Minister Rev. Karen Lindvig wraps up her series on the Alchemy of Transformation, by looking at this moment in our societal transformation as a "gestation period".  A gestation period may feel as though we are in a void, or we've lost a sense of who we are, but this is part of a larger transformation process. Karen offers insights into how we can navigate our milestone moments, like graduation, retirement, the birth of a child, the death of a loved one, so that they contribute to our soul development.

James Tierney gives the reading, from the Daily Word on Transformation.

The talk begins at 18:03 in this podcast.

Our Worship Arts team this time features returning favorite Ireland Woods.  Full service video is here.

Sunday Service Podcast November 21st – The Alchemy of Generosity

"What's your focus?  Is your focus on what you have and being grateful for that? Because that will increase.  OR is the focus on what you have not? Because, guess what, whatever it is we focus on is what increases."

Senior Minister Rev. Karen Lindvig begins a new series on The Alchemy of Generosity, which she tells us "takes the lead of greed and separation and envy, and turns it into the gold of giving, of an open heart, and of Oneness." Through stories from scripture, Buddist tradition and personal life, she introduces the concepts around being in the flow of good in our world.

Melissa Mager gives the reading, excerpts from Kahlil's Gibran's "On Giving" from the Prophet.

The talk begins at 16:41 in this podcast.

Unity of Seattle service podcasts

I live in Rome, Italy and miss having in-person access to Unity services. I’ve surfed around and have listened to many services across the U.S, and thoroughly appreciate the music and message of this church. Brava Reverend Karen!
