Ep. 263: Traumatic Brain Injury chat with Jenny's mama

In a first of its kind interview, Jenny interviews her mom to find out how she healed from a traumatic brain injury more than 40 years ago when Jeanette Anchondo was pregnant with Jenny.

In a logging accident when she was three months pregnant, Jeanette suffered a fractured skull, a broken shoulder, broken ribs, a ruptured spleen, nerve damage and, most impactful, a traumatic brain injury.

She was told she'd never work again, never drive again, and that the prognosis for her Jenny wasn't great. She's proven a lot of people wrong over the years and in this episode, she details what kept her going and how she learned to read and write again, went back to work and went on to have two more successful pregnancies.

    Ep. 261: The Chosen/ 1883's Jordan Ross

    Ep. 261: The Chosen/ 1883's Jordan Ross

Fort Worth-based actor Jordan Walker Ross sits down to talk about how he learned to overcome his limp, cerebral palsy and severe scoliosis to land roles in 1883 and The Chosen.

That limp had a negative impact on his acting career for a long time – having casting directors and agents tell him to “lose the limp” and even being replaced from the project because it was too distracting.

It wasn’t until he was cast in The Chosen that he started to love his “limp” and the things that make him different. Some of his grit and determination come from watching his grandfather, Barry Corbin struggle to get roles early in his career.

He has his own podcast as well -- here it is; https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/whats-your-limp/id1565831292

Ep. 260: Teaching kids about finances. Credit card debt to becoming a financial PRO!

Ep. 260: Teaching kids about finances. Credit card debt to becoming a financial PRO!

Teaching toddlers the basics of money-making and money-saving? Vince Shorb, the founder and CEO of the National Financial Educators Council says not only is it possible... it is imperative.

If you haven’t started yet, no worries. He’ll get you on the bandwagon. It’s not something our kids will necessarily learn about in school, so a lot of that education is up to us.

Vince fell into his own personal financial challenges in college and the struggle led him to creating a place for all of us to go, to learn about money.

Vince says molding positive financial behaviors should start around age three. In this episode, he explains how to do that.

Thematic Brain Injury chat with Jeannette

What a heartfelt story! Thank you. I met Jeannette when Jenny was about 2 or 3 so that was only a few years post injury. I worked briefly with her at the athletic club but more importantly I left my son in the day care with total confidence in Jeannette. As we became friends she eventually shared with me about the accident and her subsequent injuries. Unfortunately our lives drifted apart as our children grew but I consider her a good friend and a truly beautiful person and I’m proud to have known Jeanette. Thanks for loving your mom so deeply that you could talk about this personal story.
