141. Handling Self-Doubt
This is the second in our Confidence and Self-Belief mini-series and this one is all about handling self-doubt so we don't hold ourselves back. Hybrid working has meant much more solo working than before - which can reduce the amount of sharing each others 'behind the scenes' moments. It can be easy to think that everyone else is confident and able when you are only interacting for a 1-hour Teams meeting.
Being self-aware is a pillar of emotional intelligence, so knowing when to catch this before it slides into unhealthy levels of self-doubt or over-thinking is a useful skill for working well. We share practical tools for limiting the impact of self-doubt as well as examples of how common feelings of doubt are. Some of the most successful people are full of self-doubt, but have learned how to handle this inner voice and convert it from self-critic to self-coach. You are not alone!

140. Keeping an Optimistic Mindset
This is the first in our Confidence and Self-Belief mini-series where it is all about you and your mind. Having an optimistic mindset is linked to all sorts of benefits including health, wellbeing, professional achievements and better personal relationships. Twin studies suggest that an optimistic mindset is 30-40% linked to our genes, with 60-70% down to nurture. Being optimistic, there is a choice which we can practice more so it becomes a habit. But how do we keep optimistic, on the tougher days - particularly if we are surrounded by people who are caught up in the doom and gloom. Even for the Tiggers amongst us, the Eeyores at some point can chip away at how hopeful we feel about now and the future.
We explore the purpose of optimism, generational trends in how to keep positive in the face of adversity and take a look at Martin Seligman's 3 Ps of optimism (not taking things overly Personally, keeping setbacks compartmentalised rather than overly Pervasive and remembering that things will pass in time rather than Permanence).
We discuss what to watch out for when we are being overly optimistic, and how we can shift conversations with others towards a more 'can do' rather than 'cant do' direction.

139. Inner Wellness from an NLP perspective
In this final episode in our 4-part Personal Wellness mini-series we are joined by the inspirational Melanie Yea. A long time collaborator and friend, no-one brings the wonders of NLP to life quite like Mel does. She shares her practical tips and strategies for bringing a calmer mindset to the things that can create stress and impact our wellness. If you have yet to discover NLP (neuro-linguistic-programming) the basic premise is that we can switch our thinking patterns - often quite quickly - when we use techniques that reset our mindset. Its a powerful way to upskill how we interact and create rapport with others. Mel has also helped many clients remove fears and phobias, feel better about themselves and revolutionise how they carry themselves in their life and work. A brilliant listen for anyone who knows they need to sort out a few bits in their head to be able to truly flourish.
Mel can be contacted via LinkedIn via Melanie Yea to say hi or if you are interested in training with her to become an NLP Practitioner yourself. You can find out more about her amazing Calm Camp here

138. Restoring Life/Work Boundaries
In this third of our Personal Wellness mini-series we are joined by Jim The Coach Guy who shares his tips for restoring life and work boundaries.
Rather than seeing it as a simple life or work, he explores how within each realm there are multiple roles that we play- partner/friend/child/parent. It’s complicated!
He reminds us of the importance of stopping and reflecting to enjoy the moment - and the benefit that has for our wellness. From communicating clear boundaries within a team, to reminding ourselves of the daily disciplines that sit beneath healthy boundaries, sometimes going back to basics is a good place to start when things have tipped out of balance.
He shares ideas for how we can be fully present in the different roles we play in life so that work doesn't take over. Jim uses football as a way to bring these to life in a really easy to apply way. A useful listen for anyone who knows they need to set/reset boundaries or support others to do the same.

137. Keeping Well In a Corporate - a TA Perspective
In this second of our Personal Wellness mini-series we are re-joined by cognitive behavioural wellness expert Lindsey Thompson-Wright. She shares tips from a Transactional Analysis (TA) perspective on how to keep positive relationship with ourselves and others, especially useful for those working in a corporate environment where life/work boundaries are essential for keeping healthy and well.
Lindsey shares tips for understanding and challenging the 'script drivers' which can lead us into overdrive mode, and conflicts when working with colleagues in a pressured workplace environment. Whether its handling 'clash of the drivers' with others, or asserting ourselves to take time out for us, its about raising our levels of self-awareness to enable our personal wellness to fuel our professional performance - rather than sacrificing one for the other. Just 5 mins 'off-script' can uplift our energy and set us up for an easier day in the corporate world.

136. Mid-Year Wellness Maintenance Check
In this first of our Personal Wellness mini-series we are joined by health, fitness and wellness expert Matt Vale. As a coach, he encourages us to remind ourselves to assess progress so far this year and decide what needs to happen next to thrive throughout 2023. One of the challenges of hybrid working is that many adults are now more sedentary in their working day - sitting at the screen on Teams/Zoom calls that don't require walking up corridors and stairs to get to.
He shares tips to make the right decisions that consistently maintain our mental and physical wellness. We look at how everyday habits (not diets) is the key to how we sustain change, achieve goals and get back on track if we’ve lost our way. Matt shares his experiences as a coach about what helps people to overcome a negative mindset, to make the right decisions for us and shares tools about how to do our own maintenance wellness check. Because there is only one you.
NB: Did you know that standing up burns 100 kcal extra per hour? Scan your working week ahead, if its full of meetings - how could you plan in opportunities to stand more?
