    59. Decolonize Your Gender

    59. Decolonize Your Gender

What assumptions do you make about your gender? In this one, Ev’Yan speaks to Dayna Lynn Nuckolls (The People’s Oracle) about what it looks like to decolonize gender and why we probably need to decolonize ours. They both speak about the binary and how harmful our gendered ideas of masculinity and femininity are, how language and labels flatten us, and the ways indigenous cultures have viewed gender and gender roles. Dayna also explains what it really means to decolonize something. At the end, Ev’Yan offers questions to get you curious about your own gender to help you parse through what was shaken up in this episode.

    56. I'm Asexual, Not Broken

    56. I'm Asexual, Not Broken

What if it was okay that you don't want to have sex? In this one, Ev'Yan speaks with Angela Chen (author of Ace) about asexuality and ace liberation. Angela debunks a lot of myths about asexuality and educates us on how nuanced the Ace spectrum is. She talks about the fluidity of desire and how we don’t need to pathologize those who don’t have much of it; the connection between sexual trauma and Aceness; and how asexuality can offer us a flexible, fluid perspective of sexual desire. Ev'Yan also shares very candidly about her experience of realizing that, after all this time denying it, she is on the Ace spectrum.

Gratitude for visibility within this space

Ev’Yan this podcast has put into words so many of my inner dialogues, pondering and experiences. Thank you so much for this work. As a non-binary Black Queer person dreaming of doing this work, this content feeds me. It has been refreshing to listen to dialogue between people speaking my language and hearing different perspectives. My top most recent episodes is the Asexuality episode and Decolonizing Gender. HERE for this!
