Really good true crime podcast!!
I listen to so many TC Podcasts that they’ve all begun to merge into one and I end up not sticking with many. The psychological information and spin in this one makes it stand out. I’m going to binge listen to all episodes.
Engaging, Insightful, and Therapeutic
Listening to True Crime podcasts helps me to engage with trauma I have been through. I love this podcast because the host does not play up the gruesome nature of the crimes for dramatic effect (which can be re-traumatizing for me). Instead, she places a great deal of focus on the states of minds of the assailants, and knocks them down a peg in the process. Both of these qualities make it easier (and more fun!) to listen to these disturbing incidents, which ultimately assists me processing unresolved trauma.
For example, I learned about the Golden State Killer by listening to another fantastic podcast. However, that podcast focused more on dramatic (though factually accurate) storytelling which really messed me up. The host’s approach to this case left me with a larger than life image of the killer that really caused my anxiety to skyrocket. However, within the first ten minutes of Serially Disturbed episode 1, the host characterized the killer’s early crimes as petty and weird and referred to him as a f***ing a****le. Not only did it make for an enjoyable listen, it had a really cathartic effect of stripping that monster of the power sought to acquire by striking fear into people’s hearts. I highly recommend this podcast!
Great content and host!
