    E. 83 5 ways to increase air quality and create a germ-free home with cleaning expert Kelly Love

In this week’s episode, Dr. S is joined by Kelly Love, a co-founder of the wellness brand; Branch Basics. She shares with us five things we can do to increase our air quality at home, along with creating a germ-free home during a pandemic.

Today, Kelly will share her journey and how she has positively impacted her customers’ lives by creating non-toxic and all-natural home cleaning products. Branch Basics creates a strong community bond on social media that supports everyone’s journey towards a non-toxic and germ-free living environment.

Kelly did not start the journey alone, joined by her best friend Alison, and Alison’s aunt, Marilee. It all began when Allison got mysterious symptoms and pain; she sought help from specialists all over the country. It wasn’t till she started to feel defeated and discouraged because she wasn’t getting any better and no closer to answers. It wasn’t until her Aunt Marilee had advised her to take a more natural approach. Marilee began to ask her questions like, “What are you eating every day? What products are you using in your home?” These things never crossed Alison’s mind, and within a month of making dietary changes, product changes, and lifestyle changes, she started finally experiencing relief.

Kelly and Alison began to learn from Marilee about living a more natural lifestyle. After spending a period with Marilee in an all-natural environment, they noticed their health improving. They began to get rid of cleaning products that contain some of the most toxic chemicals found in their homes. Since then, they came together to create Branch Basics, and it has been their goal to help others toss the toxins out and live healthier lives.

Not only is Kelly passionate about helping others thrive in their lives, not just survive. Kelly tells us the ups and downs their company went through over the years and how they managed to persevere through those times.

In this episode, Kelly explains how other products contain toxic ingredients which can impact our bodies physically. She also shares her tips on improving our homes’ air quality and how to improve our home as a germ-free environment.

    E. 80 How Helene Henderson came from Sweden and created a Multi-Million Dollar Franchise in Malibu

    E. 80 How Helene Henderson came from Sweden and created a Multi-Million Dollar Franchise in Malibu

This week on the show, Helene Henderson, the creator of Malibu Farm, joins us to share her journey about how she started her restaurant in the celebrity capital of the world.

Helene was born in a small town in Northern Sweden. After graduating high school, Helene decided to travel to California with only $500 in her pocket. After working at restaurants in Sweden, she never imagined her future as a chef with a restaurant located in Malibu, California.

What started as a fun hobby and inviting friends over for dinner. Helene then moved to become a personal cook for her friends. It evolved into her creating a one-woman catering company right out of her home. Before Malibu Farm was even an idea, Helene had created a catering company, Lavender Farms Catering. It was only a matter of time before her business boomed and started catering for celebrities, studios, and corporate events.

After moving to Malibu with her husband, she left her catering business behind and transitioned into giving cooking classes from her home. With that success, she started to sell tickets for people to enjoy a backyard farm dinner at her farm home.

After a while, Helene’s husband saw a vacant space on the Malibu Pier where a 6-month pop-up turned into a successful restaurant. Having two successful years with great reviews, Malibu Farm expanded to the front Restaurant & Bar on the Pier and now has both counter service and full table service.

With her success, Malibu Farm has many locations starting from Malibu Pier to Newport Beach, California, at the Lido Marina Village. With their raging success, they opened multiple locations at the Four Seasons hotel in Lanai, Hawaii, at the Eden Roc/Nobu Hotel in Miami, FL, and at the Rosewood Miramar Beach with more seeds sprouting. Growing across the country, and are now looking to open Malibu Farm Seaport Village, which will be opening at Pier 17 in Manhattan this summer.

Their locations are only on the waterfront, as locale and setting are very important to Helene that they remain the same throughout all their sites. With their growing success, Malibu Farm is still a locally owned small business based out of Malibu Farm, California, and they do not accept any investors.

Growing up in Northern Sweden, Helene often went fishing with her uncle. It led to her love and history with seafood becoming incorporated into Malibu Farm. Not only that, they strive to offer only sustainable seafood. Even though their food is simply-prepared, they hide none of their ingredients. They use many natural ingredients such as whole wheat flour, whole grains with many veggies and fruits.

In this episode, Helene chats with Dr. S on how her restaurant on the Malibu Pier has taken off and what attracts people to visit.

In this episode, you are going to learn:
    1. How to create an inclusive restaurant.
    2. The importance of self-doubt is to push yourself for something greater.
    3. A business is always a work in progress and can always grow.
    4. When food is simply-prepared with no secret ingredients is successful.

E.79 How To Land A Deal On Shark Tank As A Seven Figure Business Founder

E.79 How To Land A Deal On Shark Tank As A Seven Figure Business Founder

In this week’s episode, we are joined by Lindsay McCormick, founder and CEO of Bite (Because It’s The Earth), a sustainable personal care company. She shares with us how Bite came to be and how she landed a deal on Shark Tank.

Lindsay was named one of Fast Company’s Most Creative People. With just an idea and $6,000 in savings, she managed to build a multimillion-dollar company with the goal to rid plastic from our daily routines. Lindsay began producing Bite’s first tablets on a hand-press tableting machine. Despite not having any formal chemistry training she set off to enroll in free online chemistry courses along with networking with hundreds of dentists and dental hygienists as a way to reduce her personal environmental footprint and to create a more eco-friendly oral hygienic routine.

Lindsay appeared on ABC’s Shark Tank where she was offered two different six-figure deals from Mark Cuban and Kevin O’Leary, in the end, she decided to turn down both offers. After her appearance on Shark Tank, Bite went viral. Bite aims for all its products to be all-natural, zero-waste, tube-free, 100% vegan, gluten-free, and cruelty-free. Its mission is to become the world’s most sustainable personal care company with its plastic-free and cruelty-free products. Her first product, the toothpaste tablet, went viral in 2018 which led Bite to create a completely plastic-free oral care set. What started as an oral care brand evolved into non-toxic personal care products. Ranging from toothpaste, mouthwash, toothbrushes, whitening gel and deodorant. All while maintaining their packaging sustainable and plastic-free. More recently, their latest product is the first-ever 100% plastic-free deodorant with compostable refills. Amazing!

In this episode, Lindsay explains how she keeps moving her business and what inspires her to continue creating plastic-free and cruelty-free products. She also shares her tips on how she was able to be a part of Shark Tank and how she landed a spot.

In this episode you are going to learn:

How to evolve your small business.
The importance of balancing a day job with your business in the early stages.
