Let's Chat About Politicians and Pass Baskets

This week we are giving you a spin and rinse on the news cycle from the past week before we take a month long hiatus.

We will be back in your ears in July (which also happens to be Jussy’s birthday month) but until then please enjoy our take on the final election outcome and who is in our ‘celebrity’ pass basket.

If you’d like to find Chole’s mate Pip she is on IG @thetidysidekick and our friend with the Julia Gillard cross stitches is @jes.hallagan

Our recommendations were ‘The Marvellous Mrs Maisel’ on Amazon Prime and the US season of Love On The Spectrum on Netflix.

Alex is one of the most talented Basketball players in the country, she has won a silver medal at the world championships playing for the Australian Opal’s.

This week Chōle and Jus both revisited two of their favourite podcasts as they both have new seasons out. Check out “Something Was Wrong” and “Normal Gossip” if you haven’t already done so.

Let's chat about mixed feelings post election

Let's chat about mixed feelings post election

We are back with another mini ep for you legends!

It would have been remiss of us not to discuss the election so here it is. Our thoughts, feelings, highs and lows from what has been a huge five days in the wake of Australian politics.

As domestic and family violence awareness month draws to a close we also reflect on our feelings about why we feel elated no women being (reportedly) killed this month and why this also isn’t something to be celebrated.

Josephine Baker - Cabaret Superstar, Spy, Civil Rights Activist

Josephine Baker - Cabaret Superstar, Spy, Civil Rights Activist

Josephine Baker is the legendary woman Jussy is telling us about this week. Despite being born into extreme poverty and living on the streets of St Louis as a child, Josephine went onto become one of the most successful African American performers in history.

Her cabaret career took her around the world and she began to use her platform to change the world. Without giving away all the details of her incredible story Josephine went into become a Second World War spy and a leader in the civil rights movement.

In modern times she has come to be known as a queer icon because of the way she unashamedly lived her life in a way that deviated significantly from the prescribed social norms of the time.

This week Jussy recommended her new Kip and Co slippers and Chōle could not stop raving about her Google Home.

There were some heavy themes in this episode and if you feel you need to reach out and talk to someone please phone Lifeline on 13 11 14.

Let's Chat About Law Reform and Political Dick Swinging

Let's Chat About Law Reform and Political Dick Swinging

This week we are chatting about the Queensland Government’s announcement to implement all 89 recommendations made by the women’s safety taskforce, including introducing new laws to criminalise coercive control.

We also share our thoughts on the recently leaked report commissioned by the AFL regarding the treatment of female umpires and the way the current election campaigns from both major parties are focusing on entirely the wrong issues.

And finally we touch on the Chris Dawson murder trial and our opinions on what makes good journalism.

Let's Chat About Roe V Wade and the "Good Bloke" Trope

Let's Chat About Roe V Wade and the "Good Bloke" Trope

This week we are chatting about two topics we feel very passionate about.

The first is the US Supreme Courts vote to over turn Roe v Wade. This means the US no longer recognises that a woman has a constitutional right to access an abortion without excessive government interference and is a terrifying step backwards for reproductive rights. It potentially paves the way for abortion to be outlawed.

We also discuss the murder of Chen Cheng, a Melbourne mother of two who was brutality murdered in her home by her husband on the weekend. The Australian media has predictably started to centre the man who did this as a “good guy” and we are absolutely sick of the was this diminishes the horrific acts of violence men perpetrate towards women.
