She Opened A Door: Jeri Burton (Ep 2) - Title IX: Why the ball is in your court

She Opened a Door: Conversations with Women Changing our Culture

Living her best life in the desert oasis of Nevada, Jeri Burton takes us behind the scenes on her advocacy journey leading her state chapter of the National Organization for Women.

Once known as the casino capitol of high-heeled cocktail waitresses, Nevada is now legally “sensibly heeled”, the 37th state to ratify the ERA (and first with expanded language), home of the WNBA champions Las Vegas Aces, and on its way to set precedent with proposed education legislation I co-authored, Empower Pupils: Women’s Health Training.

As the World Cup kicks off, Jeri discusses Title IX, how watching women and girl’s sports is a game changer, and why she’s committed to expanding equity to legally ensure “menstruation” isn’t silenced in schools, starting in her state.

You can find her cheering on her local teams, or working in coalitions driving change, but today, she’s spending the afternoon with me, sharing her highlight reel.

This is how one mom opened a door. Meet my friend Jeri Burton.
