EP 100 - Meg Ryan, Tom Hanks, and The Evolution of a Business Owner

EP 100 - Meg Ryan, Tom Hanks, and The Evolution of a Business Owner

Meg Ryan, Tom Hanks, and The Evolution of a Business Owner
Most people see the movie “You’ve Got Mail” as a love story. I however see it completely differently. When I travel on Southwest Airlines, it’s been one of their available movies lately and I’ve been absolutely loving it.
After rewatching it several times, I no longer see it as a love story. I see it as an evolution of a business owner. Meg Ryan’s character grew up in the bookstore as a kid and then later took it over from her mother. Enter Tom Hanks’s character, who is the owner of the giant book chain that just moved in down the street.
I really enjoy Meg’s character evolving going through different stages, starting in denial and later moving on to realization of impending danger, then onto fighting back against the book behemoth.
Eventually, she loses the fight and closes her shop, but then things get better for Meg’s character. She then uses the skills she’s acquired to move on to a different and more successful career in the book industry.
That’s how I see it. Even if you’ve been forced out of your current role in whatever field you are/were in, that doesn’t make you a failure. You have to end one chapter before you can begin another one.
It very well might be the catalyst you’ve been looking for.

EP 99 - Do You Believe In You More Than You Believe In Me?

EP 99 - Do You Believe In You More Than You Believe In Me?

Do You Believe In You More Than You Believe In Me?
Just an observation I’ve had about other people, and of course about myself. We tend to believe in other people more than we believe in ourselves. We feel others are destined for big things, but we tend not to believe that about ourselves.
This is definitely something we all have to overcome. But the truth is, if you are ever going to accomplish anything, you absolutely NEED to believe in yourself.
When I switched gears career-wise, I again became the top salesperson in my field. I could only do this if I truly believed in myself.
If you never try to impress yourself or to push yourself, you will never get to see exactly what you are capable of. So do it. Go for it! Try to see if you can surpass your own expectations of yourself.
I bet you can! Be your own #1 Cheerleader.

EP 98 - She Rules #73, If You Don’t Like The Radio Station, Turn The Dang Channel!

EP 98 - She Rules #73, If You Don’t Like The Radio Station, Turn The Dang Channel!

She Rules #73, If You Don’t Like The Radio Station, Turn The Dang Channel!

In my Jeep Grand Cherokee which is our family car, only about two of the radio stations are programmed for me. The rest go to the kids. I mostly listen to new music and the Christian Station because let’s face it, your girl needs Jesus. I need all the help I can get.

Recently there is a host on the Christian Station that I don’t particularly care for. I feel like she talks a bit too much and the things she says are not usually positive and uplifting things, which is why I like that station in the first place.

One day as I was feeling snarky towards that lady, I thought, “What am I doing? Change the station!” I get to listen to whatever music I want.

This can obviously be metaphorical and can be applied to relationships, marriages, and jobs. Why are you staying somewhere you are miserable? Why?

Reach down and change the channel. You have the ability to make changes and control your life!

EP 97 - She Rules #58, How Can You Expect To Make The Team If You Don’t Even Try Out

EP 97 - She Rules #58, How Can You Expect To Make The Team If You Don’t Even Try Out

She Rules #58, How Can You Expect To Make The Team If You Don’t Even Try Out

This one comes from a conversation I had with my son. They offer such great life lessons, although it’s sometimes uncomfortable when they hold that mirror up to our faces.
My older boys are bigger dudes who are definitely built for sports, and they have often tried out for teams though they don’t always make the cut. In 8th grade, everyone makes the team, but my youngest is going into 9th grade, and not everyone who tries out makes the team at that level.

This has discouraged him and he was so scared of not making the team that he almost didn’t even try out. Oftentimes the lack of certainty can paralyze a person and cause them not to act in the face of fear.

I 100% know my boys will be better men because of the times that they have tried and failed. We’ve used these times as opportunities to learn to deal with failure. Opportunities to learn to cope and to improve performance.

EP 96- She Rules #56- Never Assume Others Know What's Going On

EP 96- She Rules #56- Never Assume Others Know What's Going On

I'm a very observant person, but I can stand back and see more than most do.
I love it especially when I am traveling.
I was in the airport in Denver coming back from Cabo and I walked up to a Chinese place and I was ready for some noodles and steak.
There were a decent amount of people standing to the side and I was not really sure if they were in a line or not.
I looked at the staff, watching to see what they were doing, looking for any sign of which line I needed to be in.
I reached out to someone behind the counter to ask where I could stand.
What ended up happening was that the people gathered in the line were wondering the same thing I was.
The only problem was, that none of them had placed their order.
No one had confirmed where the line started.
In this episode, I outline why it's important to take control of being in charge and responsible for knowing what's going on.
We can't rely on the masses to help direct us.
Verify and don't be a sheep.
It could save you countless minutes of your life waiting in line.
