Sherry’s 10-year struggle with alcohol ended in surrender to God and a 1,000-mile bike trip. There is an easier way! Sherry started She Surrenders out of a place of needing to hear more humor and encouragement for women of faith struggling with their secrets of addiction. Her heart is to share everything about recovery and what it looks like to surrender to God and the life He is calling you to live. Whatever you struggle with, you are in the right place to find encouragement and comfort that you are not alone. We all have our stuff.

The Break Up Letter
My friend Janet joins me today on the podcast and starts by reading you her letter. Her breaking up with alcohol letter is impacting, raw, honest, and from her heart.
Janet's relationship with alcohol has been long and complicated, and it was time to end this unhealthy love affair with booze. How is she doing it? Listen to her share her heart with you and where she finds strength and joy in this new way of living.
Thank you, Janet, for your bravery and willingness to share your story in the hope that it will help someone else make that step to end the relationship with alcohol that is destroying their lives and everything around them.
Here are the verses Janet shared-
2 Corinthians 12:9 "But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses so that Christ's power may rest on me."
I Peter 1:13 13 "Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming."

Thank you, Carrie, for being brave and using your story to empower someone else! The verse she references at the end is; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, and I encourage you to look it up using your favorite version. This is why you don't have to stay burdened with a heavy load of shame and guilt. Read it❤️

Therapy and Addiction with Olivia Brower LMSW (and also my daughter❤️)
Today, on the podcast, we are having an important conversation about addiction and how there are some new tools in therapy you may not be familiar with. Our youngest daughter Olivia is a Masters's Level Therapist who recently became certified in ART therapy. ART stands for Accelerated Resolution Therapy, and you will hear me stumble over those big words in the podcast.
I know you will not only enjoy our conversation as she shares what ART is all about and her personal experience with it (Fear of dogs, not my fault), but you will also be intrigued and want to know more. She has given me lots of links that I will put here for you. I welcome your comments and feedback about this episode!
It was an honor to host Olivia on the SS Podcast, but I also want to add that I am so grateful that we have this healthy relationship on the other side of my addiction.
Thanks for listening, friends,
Sherry

Lori Layne-Becoming a Pilot for Christ
Lori Layne is an Author, Pilot, and a Recovering Alcoholic. Her story is truly an example of letting God be the pilot of our lives.
Lori shares Romans 5:3-5 with us as part of her story. You're going to be inspired by what God can do when we put aside our addictions to be used for a greater purpose!
Romans 5:3-5
Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

Joyful Surrender-Who We Are
What is that “thing” that you regret you did not do sooner? Since this is a podcast about addiction and mostly alcoholism there are two answers I often hear.
I wish I had quit drinking before I actually did
I wish I had joined this group before I tried it on my own again.
This group is Joyful Surrender and in this podcast, you're going to hear what a meeting is all about.
I get countless unfinished “form” notifications each week about joining Joyful Surrender. There are five questions you have to answer.
#1 Are you in Recovery? If yes, what is your sober anniversary? If no, simply answer no and move on to the next question.
#2 Why do you want to be in Joyful Surrender?
#3 Please review the group rules. Do you agree to honor them?
#4 Is your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior?
AND, this is where I lose you.
#5 Are you willing to talk with an Admin? If yes, follow the link to schedule a call.
In my estimations only about one in twenty follow through with #5. It makes no sense to me, but yet it does because I have been there. You want to take the final step but at the last minute, all the little voices of doubt creep in.
I'm passionate about Encouraging anyone to join A group, I am not trying to sell Joyful Surrender. I don’t make a profit there isn't a membership fee the only thing that’s required is a true desire to get sober and use your faith as the biggest tool To be accountable and to receive encouragement as well as give encouragement that’s why we are sharing this meeting with you
We will talk about;
What made us complete step 5 and schedule that phone call? What relapse in a support group looks like? Why are faith-based meetings so important?
And so much more!
“And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.” Hebrews 10:25 NLT
