Shift Workers and Intuitive Eating With Guest Roger Sutherland Non-Diet Companion™

    • Nutrition

In this episode, I interview my good friend and colleague, Roger Sutherland from A Healthy Shift. Roger is a veteran 24/7 shift worker of more than 37 years in front-line law enforcement in Melbourne, Australia. Now an MNU certified nutritionist Roger coaches shift working clients 1:1 in nutrition, health, and wellbeing to cope with the rigors of shift work. Roger still performs 24/7 shift work to this day so he gets it.

In this fantastic discussion, Roger expertly answers the following questions for us:

What is the prevalence of shift workers in society today?
Does shift work affect men and women differently?
As a coach what do we really need to consider that is specific to shift working clients?
Tell me about your pivot to using a weight-neutral approach and specifically Intuitive Eating for shift workers. What did your coaching look like before and what were some of the driving factors that changed your thinking?
Tell me about values-driven coaching. How is this beneficial for shift workers?
We don't endorse fasting, but why is an overnight fast important biologically, and how can shift workers navigate this in a way that doesn't cause restriction, deprivation, or neglect hunger cues?

If you have any questions or would like to work with Roger, you can find him on Instagram @a_healthy_shift.  As always, if I can be of any assistance you can find me on IG @intuitive.eating.men or on the web at https://hopedrivesme.com.
