    10Impossible — Jennifer Louden

Last week, I felt a little harried and overwhelmed and the podcast was rushed and missing some good bits so I hope to make up for it this week with lots of interesting stuff. Our main topic will be how the monkey tries to define our lives in completely unrealistic ways.
This week's guest is Jennifer Louden, the bestselling author and personal growth pioneer. If you like the conversation, I urge to to download a free copy of her great new book.
Click here for your free copy of How to Follow Through on Your Creative Desire by Jennifer Louden  Monkey of the Week: The Utopian. It’s that voice that says: "Your life could be so perfect, so much better than this if only you would listen to me. Instead, it sucks and so do you." The Utopian is wrong and we'll discuss how to make things a lot more rosy.
Monkey Tale: Susanna is related to her monkey and she's been family for far too long.

In this week’s podcast, Shut Your Monkey author and host Danny Gregory talks with the author Karen Salmansohn. 07Distractions - Jonathan Carroll

In this week’s podcast, Shut Your Monkey author and host Danny Gregory talks with the novelist Jonathan Carroll. The conversation is freewheeling — from how to start a novel, to day-jobs to the benefits of self-criticism, how to make your creative self your friend to the pleasures of handwritten manuscripts.
Here's an example of a second draft of his manuscript for Bathing the Lion.

He also pointed me to this great video of Francis Ford Coppola showing the manuscript for The Godfather.

Inspirational

Thank you for making this podcast, I’m still trying to separate from the voices in my head, I go trough depressing times and suffer with anxiety, your voice makes me feel relaxed and I’m starting to believe that I have the strength to fight my depression.
Every time I’ve received a compliment about my art or my creative ideas I question it’s authenticity.
I’ve sold paintings with the slightest effort, but the voice inside my head always tells me how I’m never going to make it and compares me to other so-much-better artists (including friends).
I see artist friends struggle with life to such a different degree, in a higher level, signing on with labels or not enough time for touring, I’m still fighting the everyday struggle of waking up in the morning, not feeling worthy, I stopped painting and working on my instagram entirely a few months ago.
I feel hopeful today... I found your podcast, still into the 3rd episode, I love the idea of journaling and doing it for myself, rather than continue to pour my soul for everyone to scrutinize (as my inner voice has said), but it will be beautiful, maybe one day inspire me when I look back and see how far I’ve come on my spiritual journey.

My monkey emerged!

I just stared listening. Second episode, I was painting well listen to Danny describe his monkey and suddenly on my paper she appeared. I kinda liked her and yet she was unsettling. Her hair stuck out like mine, teeth like mine. She had wings - she knows how I love wings but very scary looking. I was happy to meet her, finally! Now that she has structure I know I can deal with her and her chattering! Thank you Danny!
