    In 1830, the Blessed Mother appeared to St. Catherine Labouré, a French nun, and asked the sister to create what has come to be known as The Miraculous Medal, a sacramental that holds a special place in the heart of many Catholics. The Miraculous Medal was originally called the Medal of the Immaculate Conception. Because of the numerous accounts of miracles by those who wore it, people began to call it the Miraculous Medal, and the name stuck.
