Sleep is a struggle these days, so this podcast is here to help.

Insomnia and sleep deprivation are an epidemic and some have turned to a sleep podcast to help them manage their insomnia.

Listen to me tell you a story in the most boring way I can think of, to help distract your spinning mind from the stresses of the day and allow you to slip away to a good night’s rest while you’re not stressing about it.

A mix of fiction stories; popular classics and obscure finds alike, along with non-fiction; travelogues, histories, geology text books and strange finds, mean there is a guarantee to be something that keeps you just interested enough to half listen but not be so interesting that you are transfixed and desperate to hear how things go.

So try out Sleepy Time Tales, the podcast full of bedtime stories that are boring enough that you won’t resist the call of sleep.

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald  Pt 03 – Sleepy Stories of Parties and Scandal

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald  Pt 03 – Sleepy Stories of Parties and Scandal
This week’s bedtime story for all ages picks up with our protagonist at a party at the house of his cousin’s husband’s mistress, and it is every bit as awkward as you expect.
The story then moves to another party that’s awkward in its own way as he receives an invite to Gatsby’s house and is immersed in the middle of the bright and beautiful young things, where meeting the host is more challenging than expected.
Stories of music, and excitement are one thing, but they won’t stop you from falling asleep.

The book of the ancient Greeks by Dorothy Mills – Part 06. Athens and the Greek Colonies
We pick up in this week’s boring episode with Solon establishing the new rules of what we might call democracy in Athens, the resistance to the new way and the founding of the Greek colonies in Asia Minor.
It’s a fascinating period of history, but as always I’m confident that the way I’m telling it will see you fast asleep very soon..

Night and Day by Virginia Woolf

Night and Day by Virginia Woolf

Night and Day by Virginia Woolf
This is a meditative reading from Viginia Woolf’s classic novel at Katharine Hilbery and her mother are going through the process of compiling the letters and information for the biography of their great ancestor.
We learn a lot about the family, but I’m sure I won’t keep you awake as we discuss Katheirne’s methods for organising paperwork and keeping her mother in line.
We learn the shocking information that Katharine has  a talent for mathematics right before the story moves to the activities of Mary Datchet and her flirtations with Ralph Denham.
This is really a beautifully written book, full of charming characters. But they way I read to you I’m confident you’ll be asleep soon.

Old Glass and How to Collect it by J. Sydney Lewis
We return to the popular non-fiction work, Old Glass and How to Collect it by J. Sydney Lewis which is just the recipe to help you sleep.
We pick up learning about the glass produced in Ireland, the taxes and levies that wiped out the Irish glass industry, then move on to learning about novelty glasses, including popular yard glasses, which you can still find in certain pubs.

As we meet legendary harpooner Ned Land the ship searches for the mysterious and dangerous ‘Narwal’ only to find nothing. The ocean shows know sign of the ‘Unicorn’ as the crew searches from Japan to America.
Eventually they decide to call off the search when they see something unbelievable.
But it takes a long time to get there, so I doubt you’ll be awake for the excitement.

Memoirs of Extraordinary Popular Delusions by Charles Mackay

Memoirs of Extraordinary Popular Delusions by Charles Mackay

Memoirs of Extraordinary Popular Delusions by Charles Mackay
We pick up this week learning about how private enterprise came up with the plan to save the English economy by exploiting the new frontiers of South America through forming the South Sea Company in 1711.
Driven by the promise of ships full of gold coming from the native tribes of the New World a frenzy of speculation in stocks in the company drove stock values through the roof.
However, the riches failed to materialise as Spain, in control of most of the New World would not allow free trade from their English rivals.
But this didn’t prevent some people becoming wealthy from the scam while ruining many, many others.

handrrwmaas ,

I’m conflicted

I’ve listened to a few episodes and really like the reader’s voice and speed. Calming topics combined with classic works are just right because the older language is complex enough to distract the mind. I really like that. The 7 minute intro, however, I am not a fan of at all. It would be lovely if there was one intro episode and the sleep stories were free of all that repetitive chatter. If I create a playlist of episodes, like you suggest in the intro, I will be dreading the 7 minutes at the beginning of each episode reminding me that I’m still not asleep. I wish this could be corrected because this podcast is just wonderful otherwise. Took off only one star for this complaint, even though I think it’s a pretty significant drawback.

JenInHouston ,

The talent is good.

Voice, style, pace, content all great! Sound quality not so much. I cannot listen through blue tooth speaker it sounds muddled becomes in decipherable. I can only listen through my phone speaker which is not always loud enough for me. The long intro is a bit much. Just briefly say the podcast relies on listeners and list the site or sites where they can contribute and move on. I know it’s got to be financed but the manner is a bit much. I am a fan of the podcast though I do like it. I do go to sleep much easier. Thank You.

GeeEL91 ,

It’s mellow

He’s got the right tone, pacing, and content to provide a sleepy pace.
