Howdy y'all! We're heading out to the middle of America to hear a voice that so often gets overlooked, that of the smalltown Type 1. We talk a lot about the ways that Type 1 can affect, or even interfere with, our lives but there are so many instances when life itself can affect the way we experience our Type 1. Which is why this week I have on Kameran, who tells us all about the very specific challenges that Type 1s from rural communities like her face on a daily basis. Things like living hours away from her endocrinologist, or EVERYONE in town knowing her name but not willing to talk about her Type 1 because they didn't want to make her feel bad, or literally being only one of two Type 1s in her entire town, the other being her younger brother. It's a first hand account of the smalltown Type 1 experience and the Type 1 journey that all of us must navigate no matter where we come from.
