184: How to Turn Your Book into a Musical (with Eric Elder)

184: How to Turn Your Book into a Musical (with Eric Elder)

Eric Elder is one of my very best friends in the world. He’s many things: a pianist, music producer, author of well over twenty books at this point, online pastor, writing coach, and so much more. One title he was able to add to his list recently is “creator of the hit musical His Name Was Nicholas.”
Eric has been a guest on the show before. On episode 69, he talked about why you should write a book. On episode 80, he shared why it’s important to think like an entrepreneur and take control over your destiny. Those conversations help shape the context of this episode, which is taking those themes in a bold new direction by taking your existing book and creating a whole new creative experience from it.
As you listen to this conversation, Eric is going to share why he decided to turn his book St. Nicholas: The Believer into a musical, what the process was like, all about his collaborators, and so much more.
And also, you get a special performance of one of the songs from the musical!
You can check out Eric’s music, books, devotions, and so much more at https://theranch.org. If you go to the “Books” tag, you can find three very recent book released: My Stories of Faith, Volume 1, 365 Daily Devotions with Eric, and of course the script and full score for the musical His Name Was Nicholas. I also encourage you to check out Eric’s fantastic YouTube channel, where he is currently taking a few weeks to share stories and music from the musical. You can also watch live on Eric’s Facebook profile.

183: Creating Better Business Books (with Honorée Corder & Alice Sullivan)

183: Creating Better Business Books (with Honorée Corder & Alice Sullivan)

You’ve heard it a million times: writing a book can help your business. But doesn’t that mean you have to spend years writing a massive book that contains all your wisdom and knowledge?
Not according to my guests, Honoree Corder and Alice Sullivan.
Honoree is THE self-publishing expert, and she’s the author of dozens of book, including: You Must Write a Book, The Prosperous Writers book series, Vision to Reality, Business Dating, The Successful Single Mom book series, and many more. Honoree is also Hal Elrod’s business partner. He is the author of The Miracle Morning, which is a fantastic book, and together they have published over a dozen titles in the Miracle Morning series.  Honoree coaches business professionals, writers, and aspiring non-fiction authors who want to publish their books to bestseller status, create a platform, and develop multiple streams of income.
Alice is a successful ghostwriter with multiple books that have landed on the New York Times bestseller list (among many other places). Of course, you’ll never know which books she wrote because that would break the sacred code of ghostwriting … but just take my word for it, she’s a pro at the top of her field. In addition to being a ghostwriter, Alice is also a developmental book editor and author coach.
Honoree and Alice are here to talk about their amazing new venture, which is called Better Business Books. You’ll learn how traditional business books can be improved, why they are the perfect dynamic duo to offer this unique service, the Better Business Books process, why a book is a fantastic investment, and the importance of owning your intellectual property.
You can find out more about Better Business Books via this link: http://honoreecorder.com/write-your-book/. You can find out more about Honoree and her books at  https://honoreecorder.com, and more about Alice and her services at https://alicesullivan.com.

182: How to Tell a Better Story (with Alice Sullivan)

182: How to Tell a Better Story (with Alice Sullivan)

“It was a dark and stormy night …” or so the story goes. As a kid I read the Peanuts comic strip. Once in a while, Snoopy would use those words to begin a story he was banging out on a typewriter. It was sort of a meta-joke since the Peanuts comic strip was in itself a story.
Just like Snoopy, we are all crafting stories. If there is one skill in writing that trumps them all, it’s storytelling. I’m excited to share this interview where we have a true storytelling expert who can help us use the magic of storytelling even better.
My guest is Alice Sullivan, a successful ghostwriter with multiple books that have landed on the New York Times bestseller list (among many other places). Of course, you’ll never know which books she wrote because that would break the sacred code of ghostwriting … but just take my word for it, she’s a pro at the top of her field. In addition to being a ghostwriter, Alice is also a developmental book editor and author coach.
I got to know Alice a few months ago when I was going through the Publishing Ph.D. course taught by Honoree Corder. I immediately knew Alice would be a fun guest, so I’ve asked her to help us improve our storytelling skills. You’ll learn about Alice’s journey into ghostwriting, which is fascinating, why having a book is valuable, why people hire ghostwriters, and of course the main topic of this interview, which is the principles of crafting a great story.
You can find Alice at her website, https://alicesullivan.com, on LinkedIn, and Facebook.

179: Passive Income, Aggressive Retirement (with Rachel Richards)

179: Passive Income, Aggressive Retirement (with Rachel Richards)

If I said, “Name the best quote from Jerry Maguire,” what would you say? If you said, “You complete me,” you’re close … but no cigar. The best quote is, of course, “Show me the money!”
Today we’re going to be tackling the always-popular topic of MONEY … specifically, how to build passive income streams so you have the option of retiring and pursuing the things that matter to you most.
My guest today is Rachel Richards, who is a former financial advisor who is now a real estate investor, business owner, and professional speaker. At 27 years old, Rachel quit her job and retired, living off $10,000+ per month in passive income.
Rachel is also the bestselling author of two amazing books: Money Honey and Passive Income, Aggressive Retirement. When I say “bestselling,” I mean it. Rachel’s books have hundreds of reviews on Amazon, and she’s done a great job of not only writing books but also getting her message out there with creative marketing.
I make it my goal to have interesting guests on this podcast, and Rachel is no exception. This is a wide-ranging conversation, where we touch on passive income, being an owner vs. an employee, how a book can help your business explode in success, her book marketing strategies, real estate investing, and much more.
Make sure and grab Rachel’s Passive Income Starter Kit at https://moneyhoneyrachel.com/bonus. You can check out Rachel’s books on Amazon: Money Honey and Passive Income, Aggressive Retirement, as well as connect with her on  Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
