Changing the Game in Lake County's LGBTQ Community

Growing up, Betty Jacobs hid her true identity. But there was more to Betty that people needed to know and she was finally ready to tell.

Betty has used her story as motivation to change the game for the LGTBQ community in Lake County, Ohio. Last year she founded LGBTQ+ Allies Lake County.

With the climate in the country forcing people to look at things differently, Betty says “it’s easier to have the hard conversations lately.” They are working to end fear and create allies in the community.

Dr. Molly Magill's most exciting research is in motivational interviewing (MI) . She believes the “gifts” that MI gave to addictions research and the clinical field are, love, appreciation, acceptance, and compassion for clients and a way to operationalize and train people how to do it. SMART Moves From Abstinence-Based to Abstinence-Oriented Addiction Recovery

While this terminology change may seem minimal to some, it is certainly not to Board President Bill Greer. To provide some added context to an important announcement the organization has recently made, we sat down with Bill to discuss why SMART's new stance in moving toward abstinence-oriented is so important and the impact we hope it will have in helping those who utilize or wish to utilize medication-assisted-treatment (MAT) in their recovery.

Audio only issue

I love this podcast, just hate missing what’s being said from the sound drops out. Aside from that this is really an outstanding, helpful and motivating resource.

Excited, but...

I was THRILLED to see that SMART has a podcast, but woof - please up your audio game. Zoom for a guest is okay in a pinch, but the host needs a way better mic. Slight upgrade in production value would be great! With that said, thanks for sharing this important content

We need this information ❤️

Impossible to listen due to crosstalk, talking over each other, and random chatter that buries the excellent information. Please sharpen delivery so we can grow in our recovery and help each other grow strong.
