    The Suicide Squad (2021)

    The Suicide Squad (2021)

Our very occasional podcast returns with an episode we recorded last summer. Time is fake! Fortunately, our dear friends Sam & Jessica have accepted our invitation into DCEU purgatory and now there's no going back for them or us. But this movie was very popular & now you can find out if we agreed with last summer's general consensus.

    Black Widow (2021)

Last summer we invited our friends Rich Camillucci and Nick Jenkins back to talk about Black Widow. This is before any subsequent movies came out, so it's possible we've formed some new opinions since then, but that's for another episode!

    Shadow & Bone (2021– ) season 1

    Shadow & Bone (2021– ) season 1

Things we love: book adaptations & pretending time has no meaning. We were not big fans of the grisha books (neither Mari nor Nicole managed to read all 5 that this show is based on) but we wanted to talk about this show anyway, so we asked two of our good friends who *are* fans to come chat about it with us.

Love the laugh track

I’ve loved catching up on the 3 years worth of podcasts and want to take this opportunity to express my utter delight with the frequent squawking, screeching, cackling, and giggling that fill my ear holes each episode. I tend to listen to the podcasts talking about media I’m already familiar with, whether I loved it or hated it, and appreciate the amount of thought and effort that the hosts and their guests put into their conversations.

Fun

I came to this podcast from Marines’s YouTube channel. Her and Nicole are friendship goals haha.

It’s OK

I’ll start off by saying that if this podcast puts out an episode on a show/movie I’m interested in, I almost always listen to it and I usually enjoy it. The hosts are engaging and pleasant and the guests they have are usually so as well.

But that’s kind of related to why I’d say the show is OK, but not great. It’s usually a pleasant discussion of a work of media, and by pleasant I don’t mean that they never say anything critical of that media, because they do. But I feel like in many episodes the criticisms are rote and obligatory, and they don’t really go very in-depth with them. That’s probably difficult when you’re talking about something new every week, but it just seems like there’s something lacking.

And also, it’s called Snark Squad, but I would expect more snark than there usually is if it’s part of the title.

All in all, this is a pretty good show that I will listen to in a pinch if I don’t have anything else. Not the best, but very far from the worst. I’ll listen to this over a low-effort celebrity podcast any day.
