    “Memory Care 101”

Memory Care 101 with Guest Leslie and Shea: Hosted by Lydia Wietsma, Certified Probate & Senior Real Estate Specialist KKNT 960 AM “The Patriot” | Sundays, 3:00 – 3:30 PM When a loved one begins showing signs of memory loss, families are often left wondering where to turn. On this week’s episode of Solving Life’s Next Chapter, host Lydia Wietsma sits down with Leslie and Shae, both ladies are experienced senior living professionals who specializes in memory care, to unpack what families really need to know when facing this emotional and complex journey. 💡 Understanding Memory Care Leslie begins by explaining what memory care truly means—and how it differs from traditional assisted living. Memory care communities are specifically designed to support individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, or other cognitive challenges. From structured daily routines to specialized therapies, every detail is focused on safety, comfort, and preserving dignity. “Memory care isn’t just about supervision—it’s about engagement, compassion, and helping residents live with purpose,” Leslie shares. ❤️ Recognizing the Signs For many families, the hardest part is recognizing when it’s time for extra support. Shae and Leslie outline some early warning signs: forgetting familiar routines, getting lost, or showing sudden personality changes. They also discuss how guilt and fear can hold families back from making the best decision for their loved one. “Families need to know that seeking help isn’t giving up—it’s providing the best quality of life possible,” she explains. Early intervention can make a world of difference, often improving both the individual’s comfort and the caregiver’s peace of mind. 🏡 Inside a Memory Care Community Listeners get an inside look at daily life in a memory care community—where structured activities, sensory therapies, and personalized care plans help residents stay connected and calm. Safety is built into every design element, from secure walking paths to soothing color palettes. Shae and Leslie also discuss caregiver training, emphasizing the compassion and skill that go into caring for those with dementia. “Our staff receive ongoing education on communication, behavioral changes, and emotional support,” Shae notes. “It’s about understanding the person, not just the diagnosis.” 💬 Resources and Support for Families The conversation closes with practical advice for families preparing for a memory care transition. Leslie highlights the importance of early planning—emotionally and financially—and encourages families to seek out local support groups. Their final message is one of reassurance: “You don’t have to walk this road alone. There are caring professionals and communities ready to help.” Leslie mentions Banner Alzheimer and Memory Cafe, to help with resources for families going through this journey.   Reach out of Lydia Wietsma @ ‪(602) 688-4310‬ for a list of questions to ask as you visit communities for your loved one. 3. “Senior Living 101”"

    “Senior Living 101”"

🎙️ Solving Life’s Next Chapter: Senior Living 101 with Shea and Leslie, experts in the Senior industry as between them, they have 55+ years of experience in the senior industry When it comes to helping a loved one transition into senior living, most families have the same reaction — where do we even begin? On this week’s episode of Solving Life’s Next Chapter, host Lydia Wietsma, Certified Probate & Senior REALTOR® and owner of NextHome Power Realty, sat down with Shae Rambow and Leslie A. Davis, trusted senior-living professionals, to unpack the most common questions families face when exploring senior housing options. Together, they shared compassionate insight, practical advice, and a clear path to making confident decisions. Understanding Senior-Living Options Shea began by explaining that “senior living” isn’t one-size-fits-all. Families can choose from: Independent Living – Ideal for active seniors who want freedom with added community amenities.Assisted Living – Provides daily support with meals, medication, and personal care while encouraging independence.Continuing Care Communities – Offer multiple levels of care in one location, allowing residents to age in place. They emphasized that understanding these distinctions early helps families focus on what their loved one truly needs rather than what feels urgent in the moment. Knowing When It’s Time to Consider a Move One of the toughest parts of the senior-living journey is recognizing the signs that a move might be needed. Shea and Leslie shared that indicators often include isolation, poor nutrition, medication mismanagement, or safety hazards at home. They encouraged families to start the conversation early—not during a crisis. “The earlier you talk about it,” Leslie said, “the more control your loved one has in choosing where and how they want to live.” We also discussed the emotional side of these decisions. Guilt and hesitation are normal, but professionals can guide families through those feelings with compassion and facts. Touring Communities and Asking the Right Questions Once families decide to explore options, Shea and Leslie recommends visiting multiple communities and coming prepared with questions about staffing, activities, dining, and medical support. They reminded listeners that finding the right fit is about more than cost—it’s about quality of life. Tasting the food is very important so make sure to take time to have a meal whether that's a lunch or a dinner.   During the conversation, Lydia noted how often her real-estate clients feel relief once they realize there are professionals who specialize in this process, from finding the right community to coordinating the home sale. Financial Planning and Available Resources Another major concern for families is how to pay for care. Shea highlighted resources such as: VA Aid & Attendance benefits for eligible veterans and surviving spouses.Bridge loans or home-equity options to fund the transition.Working with a SRES, Certified (Senior Real Estate Specialist) REALTOR® familiar with downsizing and estate sales.By planning To Contact Lydia or Sheryl OR DONATE to Neighbors Who Care Follow US... Protecting Homes, Legacies, and Loved Ones Episode

In the very first episode of Solving Life’s Next Chapter, we dive into real-life challenges families face when navigating probate, property, and senior care issues. We share the story of a client whose mother faced a judgment that could have wiped out the profits from her home—and how the Homestead Act provided vital protection. We also discuss the importance of recording beneficiary deeds before a loved one passes away to ensure property transfers smoothly and avoids costly complications. Finally, we address a topic many families struggle with but few talk about hoarding among seniors. We explore how clutter can build up over time, why it happens, and compassionate ways families can step in to help without creating conflict.
