The Socceresq Podcast (Episode 20): Summary Judgment Day for the USWNT, US Soccer

The Socceresq Podcast (Episode 20): Summary Judgment Day for the USWNT, US Soccer

There's still not much to talk about on the pitch, but the battle between the USWNT and US Soccer rages on. Both sides have filed Summary Judgement motions, and the outcome could change the landscape of the battle for Equal Pay--and soccer--in the United States for years to come. The Federation's motion caused the ouster of former president Carlos Cordeiro, but that doesn't mean they don't have a solid argument.
To discuss the motions, I called up fellow attorney and journalist Kelsey Trainor, who has been following the case as closely as anyone. We talk about the merits of the arguments, and the potential outcomes depending on how the judge rules in the case.

The Socceresq Podcast (Episode 19): Talking MLS and US Soccer with ESPN's Jeff Carlisle

The Socceresq Podcast (Episode 19): Talking MLS and US Soccer with ESPN's Jeff Carlisle

The soccer world continues to deal with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, with leagues around the world shutting down. Here in the United States, MLS is in the middle of a suspension of its season, and US Soccer has suspended all competitions (including the US Open Cup) until further notice. MLS for its part is hoping to restart league games by May 10, and is extending its moratorium on training on a week-by-week basis.
The longer the suspension goes on, the more consequences there will be for all leagues in the form of cancelled games and competitions. To discuss where we go from here, I’m joined by Jeff Carlisle, national writer for ESPNFC.com, to get his insight on how MLS is dealing with the pandemic, when we might see team back on the field, and what the season might look like when we do. We also discuss how the US Soccer Federation is handling the pandemic, and chat a little about the fallout from the resignation of president Carlos Cordeiro.

The Socceresq Podcast (Episode 18): How COVID-19 is affecting soccer in the United States

The Socceresq Podcast (Episode 18): How COVID-19 is affecting soccer in the United States

The Corona virus continues to be the talk around the world, with countries essentially shutting down, as they attempt to weather the storm. It’s no different in the United states, where it appears the wave has yet to crest. The federal government has recommended that public gatherings be limited to a handful of people, while local governments in multiple states have shut down bars, restaurants, gyms and other social gathering places.
That obviously has affected all sports, as every league in the United States has suspended operations for at least thirty days. And based on the CDC guidelines recommending no large public gatherings for 8 weeks, it could be June before things start to return to normal…if we’re lucky.
To talk about how this is affecting professional soccer in the United states, I called up Jeff Reuter of the Athletic, who recently published a piece on how the MLS, NWSL and USL are dealing with the crisis. We focus in particular on the USL, who like other second division leagues around the world work on thin margins. We discuss how they’re dealing with the crisis, and what they’ll do when they return on the field.

Great Sounders FC podcast!

Mark, you’re way more quiet than Jeremiah. I don’t know if it’s you voice or the volume of you mic in comparison to Jeremiah’s.
Do you guys have different kinds of mics?
