The difference between a boring road trip and an enjoyable one is often having someone in the passenger seat next to you whose presence you cherish. God intends that we do life in community. We are better together, and life’s more fun too!

It’s impossible to drive a car without a steering wheel. Even self-driving cars have them. God sent the Holy Spirit to be the “steering wheel” of our lives. With his presence and leadership in our lives we can do what God wants us to do and go where he wants us to go.

A car needs two things in order to stop and go: gas and brakes. Take away either and it becomes essentially useless. Following God means “going” when He says “go,” and stopping when He says “stop.” Prayer is how we learn to do both most effectively.

A car without a good engine will never reach its potential; it may be shiny and new but its dependability is always limited. God intends the Bible to be the engine for the Christian life. It’s absolutely essential for living as we were created to live.

When a culture embraces darkness, it always provides an opportunity for the church to help the people who are hurt by it. At Southland we want to provide hope and compassion to anyone who has tried what the world is offering only to find out it’s empty and unsatisfying.

There is a war being waged for the hearts and minds of students today. From pornography to drug use to mental health issues, an entire generation of people needs the wisdom of God and the love of a community of adults committed to setting them up for a lifetime of spiritual success. As a church, our investment in students has never been more critical. We need your help!
