Spanish 213 is the first course of the sequence of Spanish 213/214 for students who grew up around the Spanish language and who have been raised in the United States. As outlined in the textbook on pp. ix, x, Nuevos Mundos, this course is designed for Hispanic bilinguals to provide them with opportunities to develop their academic and their daily communicative skills. In one-to-one conversation with other students, in small discussion groups, as well as interaction with the instructor and with the entire class, the student will build upon interpersonal skills. Meaningful communication in the heritage language will be the basis for exchange of information, explaining and defending opinions, debating a position or point and defending one's stance on an issue in informal contexts. The class activities will also be tailored to include the diverse language and cultural experiences of the students.
