Leaders & Lagers

Special Guest: Seth McColley, VP of HR at Kirby-Smith and Host of the Six Degrees or Less Podcast/Rad Hombre Lager

On this week’s podcast we have special guest Seth McColley, vice president of human resources at Kirby-Smith machinery, and host of the six degrees or less podcast. We talk about the importance of empathy and “relationshiping.” I share a glass of rad hombre mexican lager from Anthem Brewing in Oklahoma City, OK.

About Seth: by trade, he's an HR professional with more than 20 years of action-packed, diverse experience in varied industries such as telecommunications, restaurant/hospitality, distribution, software, retail, and construction. He has worked for some of the largest fortune 500 companies and been able to apply those learnings to help smaller companies grow. Today, he is the vice president of human resources for Kirby-Smith machinery, inc., a heavy equipment dealer based in Oklahoma City, OK. He understands that we are not defined by the titles we hold or where we sit on the org chart, but rather our relationships and how we can serve others.

Seth is a firm believer that people are a company's greatest asset. They want to be led, not managed, and that our networks need to be cultivated, not manipulated. We are the sum of all of our experiences. The connections we make and the relationships we build make us the incredible people we are today and that we will become tomorrow. If our network is the lifeblood of our careers, the professional connections that we make will significantly affect the impact of our careers.

Seth launched his first podcast show, 6 Degrees or Less, in February 2019. The show is focused on the art and power of networking, or "relationshiping" as he calls it. It's connected to the idea, six degrees of separation, that every single one of us is no more than six steps away from being connected to one another. He'll use this platform to break down stereotypes and misconceptions about what networking is (and isn't) and help listeners improve their networking skills to cultivate more meaningful, effective professional relationships. On each episode, new people from different backgrounds, with different dreams, and on different journeys will share their stories and lessons learned.
