Specialty Certificate for PTs, PTAs, OTs, and OTAs in Senior Living Care The Stretch Mobility Coach Podcast

    • Careers

In today's episode, I'm thrilled to share something truly groundbreaking that's been brewing behind the scenes. As a seasoned professional in the world of healthcare, I've seen firsthand the gaps in care for our senior community, particularly those residing in assisted and independent living facilities. Recognizing these challenges, I've developed a new specialty certificate aimed at empowering not just PTAs and PTs, but also OTs and Occupational Therapist Assistants to offer comprehensive well care services to the complex senior population.
This innovative certificate allows licensed rehab professionals to extend their expertise beyond traditional physical therapy, addressing the urgent need for targeted, effective well care services nationwide. The reality is stark; too often, seniors face a decline in their functional abilities due to inadequate support post-discharge from therapy services. This decline is not just a matter of aging; it's a consequence of the limited scope of care currently available, constrained by insurance limitations and a lack of specialized programs focused on maintaining and improving seniors' quality of life.
But it's not all doom and gloom. This new program represents a beacon of hope. It's designed to bridge the gap, offering rehab professionals the tools they need to implement reconditioning programs that cater specifically to the needs of the complex senior. With a curriculum that includes exercise prescription, well care assessment, and long-term reconditioning programming, this workshop is poised to revolutionize how we support our seniors in maintaining their independence and vitality.
The first course, focusing on exercise prescription for the complex senior, is just the beginning. It promises to prepare participants to deliver services that align with their licenses while meeting the critical needs of seniors in a way that Part A and Part B coverage simply cannot. I'm calling on my fellow PTs, OTs, COTAs, and PTAs who share a passion for this work and are ready to step outside the confines of orthopedics and traditional therapy models.
