112: Mythological Cross-Dressing (with Andrea Lam)

Our good friend Andrea is BACK, this time to lead us through a history of cross-dressing in mythology and folklore. We tackle stories from ancient Greece, Norse mythology, Chinese poetry, and beyond! We also chat about disaster bis, make too many puns and portmanteaus, and debate how best to cut a bagel. And remember: Never Sleep.

Julia’s recommendation this week is The Cryptonaturalist.

Hear about the motivation of monsters, what our ideal Thai supernatural soap opera would look like, and our hypothesis on ocean vs. lake creatures.

Awesome!!

I found this show through Potterless, so I started trying out other multitude podcasts, and I LOVE this podcast!! My fav episodes are the Finnisch ones bc I loved how everyone just had magic, but I haven’t listened to all the episodes yet. Anyway, I really love this podcast so much definitely deserves a listen!!

Solid Podcast ( maybe dropped off a bit lately)

I actually found this from Potterless a few years ago and I’ve been consistently enjoying the new episodes. My favorite was definitely the Finish one and I love Elena’s perspective on it. Close second are the Norse ones, and I would love you to cover that more. Greek mythology got a whole series and I really learned a lot from the small amount that it was brought up. Maybe do one comparing the Thor movies to the mythology? I don’t know, that wasn’t even review but the point is, I love it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

*Edit* I read ShelbyTheSnail’s review and I realized they weren’t exactly wrong. They talk about how the older episodes were much better and the new ones have more of a formulaic and boring rhythm, and that the Urban Legends are probably mostly fake. Thinking back, all of my favorites are from a while ago, like Japanese urban legends, but I don’t think this changes that I absolutely loved most of the show, even though I haven’t been quite as enthralled since It’s All Greek to Me ended.

*another edit*
The Norse of Course episode just came out and I’m very excited and Norse mythology is by far my favorite

Favorite podcast of all time

I love this podcast so much. It’s fun, it’s informative, it’s approachable, it’s queer and relatable. I’ve been listening for years, and I recommend it to people all the time!
