The Worst Commute Ever (Nyad, 2023)

We discuss Nyad (2023), the true story of athlete Diana Nyad, who, assisted by her best friend and coach, attempts to complete a record-breaking swim from Cuba to Florida. Annette Bening and Jodie Foster scored Oscar nominations for best lead and supporting actress, respectively, for their performances. A bunch of things stand out about this film: enduring sunburns and sores, potentially fatal wildlife interactions, perseverance, ageism, abuse, leadership, friendship, and more.

    Araña Azul (Blue Beetle, 2023)

    Araña Azul (Blue Beetle, 2023)

We discuss Blue Beetle (2023), a DCEU action/adventure/sci-fi film with genuine emotion despite some serious writing flaws. It connects with the audience on topics such as student debt, family, immigration and financial hardship. Of course, nothing makes it more relatable than superpowers granted by parasitic alien tech. That's happened to everyone, amirite?

Yes, we know an araña is a spider, not a beetle. Listen to the episode - it makes sense! Plus, listen to Chris try to flex his Hispanic muscles and pronounce the cast's names. Such an adorable failure!

Something Borrowed, Something Blue (Melancholia, 2011)

Something Borrowed, Something Blue (Melancholia, 2011)

We discuss the sci-fi/drama film, Melancholia (2011). It's about two sisters, their strained relationship, their mental illnesses, and an impending world-ending astronomical event.

Mental health is health. This episode deals heavily in topics of anxiety and depression specifically, and mental health in general. There is no shame in seeking medical treatment, whether the issue is a broken bone or a mental crisis. If you need assistance in NYC, contact the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Elsewhere in the US you may have local resources, but you can always start with SAMHSA's National Helpline.

These Go To Eleven (This is Spinal Tap, 1984)

These Go To Eleven (This is Spinal Tap, 1984)

This week we discuss This Is Spinal Tap (1984), a music mockumentary telling the story of fictitious English band Spinal Tap as they circle the drain on a comically bad tour. The film is legendary for its improv, catapulted the careers of those involved, and invented the mockumentary genre itself. Joining us for the discussion are Rob from Metalhead Journeys, and Ray from Deluxe Edition Podcast and 10 Cent Beer Knight.

Little Did He Know (Stranger Than Fiction, 2006)

Little Did He Know (Stranger Than Fiction, 2006)

To coincide with tax day, we discuss Stranger Than Fiction (2006). It's a story about taxes and IRS audits, love and literature, writer's block and fate. And notably it's the Will Ferrell movie for people who don't like Will Ferrell movies. You can read Chris' article defending Stranger Than Fiction here.

Hilarious but Impactful!

These guys, they are funny but they are kind of cerebral . Entertainingly silly but also lets me know what movie to watch or what to avoid. I found their episodes surprisingly educational.

Frecklefart999999 ,

Delightful!

Elle and Chris have great banter in their movie discussions, and are also really knowledgeable. It’s a very entertaining listen!

Love It

Can’t get enough, I have it set to download and listen as soon as an episode drops…. Thanks for the great work
