Episode 10 - Cric or Intubate

Episode 10 Welcome back to StandBy 4 Tones Podcast! It’s been a hot minute but we have another great episode for you today! In this episode, Sam asks the question of do we try the intubation or just go to the cricothyrotomy?  We each have our opinions which we will share and we also bring up some crazy scenarios and images to emphasize our opinions.  (Warning there are some strong images in this one)!  Continuing on this topic we discuss Severe Angioedema related to Ace Inhibitors.  You will get to see one of the coolest airway videos you have ever watched and we learn about a new treatment option for dealing with Ace Inhibitor Angioedema.  There is some great advice and discussions dealing with difficult airways in this video. You will not be disappointed and should learn something new.  After we cover airway management we discuss rule #3 in our rules for EMS series.  The final part of this Podcast goes into what we are calling the “Pre-CISM”. Most EMS providers know what a Critical Incident Stress Management “CISM” entails, but why do we have to wait for something terrible to happen before we talk about these types of things. We have some great advice for EMS providers and we open ourselves up to being vulnerable and let out some emotions practicing what we are preaching.  We really enjoyed this episode and cant wait to hear what you think. Make sure you hit all those buttons to stay in touch with us and I guarantee you will know someone who needs to see this episode!  Strap in for a great discussion and thank you for tuning in to StandBy4Tones!.  www.Standby4tones.com

Episode 9: Abdominal pain, “Midshaft”, and Chest Tubes!

Welcome back to the StandBy 4 Tones Podcast, where every episode blends education with entertainment to bring actionable knowledge straight to your ears. Today, we delve into essential topics designed to benefit EMS professionals at all levels. We kick things off with a common yet critical issue: abdominal pain. When does abdominal pain warrant an ALS provider, and we explore the protocols for identifying and managing the daunting prospect of an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm in the field. Our ongoing mini-series on our cherished rules of EMS continues, offering insights that marry practical advice with our years of field experience. We also tackle a thought-provoking question from one of our listeners about femur fractures. What exactly does "midshaft" mean, and how do we determine the necessity for a traction splint? The discussion heats up as we weigh in on a hot debate sparked by a recent video about chest tubes and wall suction. Should chest tubes always be on water seal, or is wall suction acceptable? We'll provide evidence-based insights, share best practices for chest tube placement, and offer expert tips to ensure secure and effective management.
