Starfleet Intelligence calls upon the Tempest for another mission crucial to the security of the Federation. The Klingons may be preparing to invade and it's up to the Tempest crew to sneak into Klingon space and confirm whether or not an invasion is imminent and if the Federation is in fact the target.

The Tempest crew continues their search for the vital piece of information they need to learn if the Federation is about to be invaded. And once discovered, they are suddenly faced with a difficult choice from an entirely unexpected direction.

The Tempest arrives at the Federation colony of Turkana IV, hoping to find some way to keep a colony tottering on the brink of anarchy from collapsing into violent chaos.

While Maddox tries to broker some kind of peace between the colony's leadership, the rest of the crew tries to get to the bottom of the engineering mystery that is dooming the planet.

Maddox continues his attempt to bring the two cadre leaders to some kind of peaceful agreement while Holden spearheads an effort to resolve the planet's underlying energy crisis.

The Tempest comes to the aid of its sister ship, the USS Enterprise-C, trapped in space and crewmembers vanishing mysteriously.
