Starving Artist - art, money, freelancing, and how to live creatively
Starving Artist is a podcast about art, money, and how to combine those things. If you’re a creative who’s ever wondered “how the hell do I make this work?!” then this podcast is for you. The show is basically an excuse for host and honesty enthusiast Honor Eastly to ask successful artists really nosy questions about their financial situation, and record the conversation. This is a no-holds-barred exploration of the reality behind the Starving Artist myth, and season one features 12 interviews with some of Australia's most incisive young artists including Frances Cannon, Becky Sui Zhen, Abbey Rich, Wendy Syfret (i-D / VICE) and Steve Roggenbuck. The podcast takes us behind the curtain and into the machine room of contemporary artists, taking on everything from how to make a living from Instagram, how to negotiate a raise in the arts, to how to get out of your private freelancer tax shame. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Gives Me Hope

Thankful to Honor for this podcast. I have learned so much from every single one I’ve listened to. Her voice is very calming and reassuring and she has an infectious laugh! Her questions are insightful and her guests are really knowledgeable! It gives me so much hope that one day I will be able to make a living from my artwork. I’m in art school right now doing my BFA in Ceramics/Sculpture and I’ve been working really hard on my Instagram and Etsy sales, but it can be rough trying to juggle school and sales. @darshanicreations is my handle if anyone wants to see what I do.
Love this!

A lot of these episodes literally describe my life. I'm a 24 year old art school gradate that has worked various graphic design jobs with the hopes of being able to be a full time artist and illustrator. I have so many ideas, but never enough time to do them. The closest taste I had to being a working artist was being laid off and inbetween jobs. That allowed me to spend plenty of time in the studio until it was time to look for another job again. No surprise i'm always exhausted. This podcast is just what I need to realize that i'm not alone in all this and everything will be okay.

An amazing podcast, stumbled across it the other day and listened to ALL episodes. Each guest is super insightful and honest and I have enjoyed the variety of topics - a truly amazing podcast!
honest, courageous and charming

I am damned impressed with this honest, courageous and charming podcast. The questions Ms. Eastly asks, with delightful laughs and respect, beg to be asked. In a time where every artist/performer, et al. is facing possible failure, defining what success means and how to support that life is a far deeper truth. Learning that superior entrepreneruial skills and an additional degree in business aren't the only paths, though they certainly could be. I'll be listening with great interest to every episode. Thanks (also in advance) to all for your candor and courage to "jettison jobs" and plans B-Z and tell us how you did it!
