Parting The Sea

This the real deal for anyone even remotely into the Crowes.
Ian and David have the unique ability to appeal to fans at any level, and apply an enthusiastic yet cerebral analysis of the subject matter in each episode. This is a labor of love and passion which shows in their reverence for the songs. The Crowes dedicated themselves to the eternal ‘song’ , the never ending passion and dedication to the power of music, and these gentleman have now woven themselves into the tapestry of that pursuit, 10/10 will recommend.

My first 5 star rating

So if you’re actually reading this/my review, it would suggest you are debating whether or not to listen. Please allow me to help provide some guidance then. Listen if any of the following apply to you:

1. A band, in particular The Black Crowes, have had an impact on your life

2. Agree the TBC were, during their peak, arguably one of the best rock bands of all time...yes, of all time

2a. Worth noting, the aforementioned term in point #2 above (“peak”) is subject to one’s own subjective opinion. e.g. ‘95-‘97, ‘05-‘06, 2010

3. Would enjoy listening to discussions on album rankings, unreleased material, song-by-song analysis per record, b-sides, and musical composition breakdowns (riffs, solos, etc.)

4. Would enjoy hearing from people connected to TBC interviewed. Whether that be former members, crew, tapers, fans, fellow musicians, or authors.

5. Believe associating a positive vibe to the Crowes is alright, publicly (despite the dysfunctional inner workings of the band, which tended to, at times, seep into the fan base).

6. Appreciate the talents of all former band members, while in the Crowes or in their side projects. (Magpie, CRB, Trigger Hippy, MFF)

7. Enjoy some, or all, of the offshoots of TBC. As in, the other bands and musicians connected to the Crowes in some way. Marcus King, Tedeschi Trucks, North Mississippi Allstars, Govt Mule, Blackberry Smoke, etc.

Alright, if you made it through my 7 bullets above and still aren’t convinced, I’m not sure you read all 7. This podcast rocks! Dave and Ian are spot on with great opinions and banter. Really good guys and my favorite podcast on my favorite band.
