Jason is the Brewmaster and Vice President of Brewing Operations (encompassing the departments of Warehouse/Supply Chain, Production, Packaging and Quality) at Allagash and has been a part of Allagash since 1999. He currently sits on the board of the Brewers Association, American Malt & Barley Association, and Allagash Wilderness Waterway Foundation, and is actively involved with the Hop Quality Group. He is the Chair of the Brewers Association's Technical Committee, a former board member of the Master Brewers Association of the Americas-New England as well as the Maine Brewers’ Guild—and is the recipient of the 2016 Russell Schehrer Award for Innovation in Craft Brewing. A decade ago, Zach Page and Nick Bonadies met as homebrewers who volunteered to help launch Trillium Brewing Company. Zach, who handles a lot of the brewing responsibilities, moved to Maine and worked at Lone Pine Brewing Company where he facilitated their expansion. Nick, who now does a lot of marketing, naming, and other managerial responsibilities, stayed in Massachusetts for a while where he coordinated Trillium's expansion projects. Eventually they got back together professionally and brought their wives Melissa and Katie into the fold, with the four of them opening Belleflower Brewing in 2021. Argenta is a brewery and tasting room in West Bayside and Portland, Maine’s only “lager beer saloon!” Ryan Dunlap, owner and operator, is originally from Nevada where the word, Argenta, first inspired him. Argenta was a silver mine in the 1860’s but quickly crumbled and now sits as one of the hundreds of ghost towns in the state. This silver mine was the namesake of Ryan’s college dorm, and thus a beer company was born. “What drives us here at Argenta is very simple: leave it better than you found it. After moving to Portland, Maine several years later, she became deeply immersed in the vibrant Maine beer community, exploring its people, places, and unique stories. Through her writing, Carla has profiled the once-overlooked craft beer scene of New England, offering insights and advice on the region's best and most interesting fermented drinks. She has been a columnist for The Bollard, Portland Press Herald, MaineToday.com, and Beer & Weed Magazine, as well as regularly writing on her own blog. After welcoming a daughter at the end of 2023, Carla has stepped back from beer writing to focus on family life but continues to nurture her love for local craft beer. Wayne Wambles was the head brewer at Cigar City Brewing way back when we used to record at Hunahpu's Day (RIP). He’s responsible for some of the most well know beers out there, including the fest’s namesake stout, and has left a significant imprint on the craft beer industry. Fast forward almost a decade and Wayne is now running his own brewery in the hills outside of Asheville, North Carolina. We talk about his journey through multiple Cigar City ownerships and how he came to buy a small brewery to make his own. As always, it’s a good listen with some fun beers in the black glass.
