Since the 1940s Walkersville fire department has been hosting an annual carnival and on this episode of the Steeples and Peoples podcast we will talk with the long time chairperson Vaughan Zimmerman to find out all that’s included in this year‘s 2022 edition. We will speak with him about how the funds are used and just exactly when the carnival began along with what the motivation is each year as they host this annual festival on the Walkersville Fire Department property. He shares with us all about the rides, games,  concessions and everything else you’d wanna know including the live entertainment nightly. So prepare yourself as we roll into Frederick County‘s carnival season and get ready to make the drive over to Walkersville and enjoy all the things that they have to offer starting July 4.

All Aboard…..This week on the Steeples and Peoples All Things Frederick County Maryland podcast we talk with the President of the Walkersville Southern Railroad, Wayne Kirchhof. Kirchhof talks about the history and funding of this volunteer based organization. He shares the various types of train events and informs us of the various events others can book. He lets us know the specific months and hours of operation and how you can stay in touch with all they have going on with their excursions including a summer train for the little ones. Kirchhof talks about the new editions to the train line and the upgrades in the museum. Get you conductors hat on and grab your train whistle and head over to the Walkersville Southern Railroad for a memorable time whether with the family or a dinner train with that special person.

You can’t help thinking of Frederick without reflecting on one of the most prominent and influential citizens that ever lived here, Governor Thomas Johnson. On this episode of the Steeples and Peoples All Things Frederick County Maryland we speak with Amanda Veneable and Kari Saavedra, the current and former curators of Rose Hill Manor Park & Museums were the first Governor of Maryland lived. We discuss with them the rich history of this historic property and how it has been preserved throughout time for generations to enjoy. They tell us of how the return of field trips and other groups to the property have been a welcome sight and share with us some of the things that will also be returning after a 2 year hiatus.
