Like a Minnesota Muslim version of Story Corps🙂

While clearly Ali and his Mom don’t represent all Muslims ( nor do they claim too), I appreciate the glimpses I have gained into the thoughts and lives of people who have come to the US from other countries.
I work with adult students who are immigrants and have learned a lot from their stories but I am reluctant to ask things that would be seen as too personal.
Ali and his Mom seem to give thought to their topics so they can explain their viewpoints without offending other Muslims who may have a different views.
It is good for those of us who were born in the US to hear how the country appears to newer residents.
The warm relationship of Ali and his Mom and their humor makes these episodes very entertaining as well.

( I listen on Stitcher but do not see a way to write a review on that App)

Needs editing

Some of the raw material is endearing, but this is clearly a pod that is winging it with no clear narrative or interview structure. I’m surprised by this since Ali’s humor is so carefully curated. I’m also uncomfortable with the minimal effort to frame sensitive material about Ali’s father, who seems to have been injured in ways that justify more careful representation. I stopped listening to several episodes when the content turned self-indulgent and insular. Love the idea, but editing more purposefully would be a service to listeners.

I love love the authenticity of Ali and his jokes as well as his relationship and genuine love for his mom! Mona is such a charismatic and smart lady I absolutely love their interaction and the entire podcast. My husband and I always open the episodes on our commute to and after work and craving for more episodes. And who wouldn’t love that catchy intro songs du du du ok I will stop :)
