Jackson sees red (again) as CWC progress hangs in the balance

We didn't want to go to Miami anyway... Matt Davies-Adams has got The Athletic's Chelsea experts Liam Twomey and Simon Johnson alongside him to look back on the 3-1 defeat by Flamengo in Philadelphia which means there's work to do if they want to progress to the knockout stages of the Club World Cup. We talk Nicolas Jackson's red, more confusing selection and tactical decisions, Cole Palmer's struggles and whether we should be cutting this group more slack given the circumstances... So it's a shootout for second place in the group on Tuesday night in Philly as Enzo Maresca's side take on Es Tunis. Huge Man United double-header with UCL football & FA Cup glory on the line

Listen to every episode!! Great Chelsea content and news. Find it kind of hilarious how in the same episodes where Liam and Simon are moaning, tearing up, and questioning Maresca’s starting XI, they then go on to pick their own lineup for the next game—and it’s full of “he needs a rest,” “don’t want to risk another injury,” and “rotation makes sense here” type justifications. Yet somehow, it rarely gets acknowledged that Maresca is doing exactly the same thing—except with way more data, insight, and, dare I say, experience.

I’ve listened to a few Chelsea podcasts and SOC is by far the best one. Great insight on the team and they present the information in a witty and interesting way. Highly recommend to any Chelsea fan looking for a podcast to listen to about the team.

It’s so nice to have a positive Chelsea-focused podcast when so much of the media takes shots at the club (some fair, a lot of them not so much). Matt is the best and most likable host around, he’s just pleasant to listen to and I’m always happy to hear him on other podcasts as well. The rotating guests are fun and I love checking in with the pod after each match to recap. Keep up the good work!
