Picking up where we left off in last week's episode, we continue with the investigation into a similar case that took place in Germany involving the close friends of Michael Peterson.

But just as the lead starts to look promising, the case takes another turn; this time in the midst of the heated courtroom battle between North Carolina prosecutors and Michael Peterson's defense team. The issues at hand: hidden agendas by the police against Peterson, the inability to find the murder weapon, the implausible events leading up to Kathleen's death, and finally, the owl theory.

On 9 December 2001, 60 year-old Michael Peterson called 911 to report that he had just found his wife, Kathleen, unconscious at the bottom of their staircase. But what seemed like an accident soon became increasingly complicated, as investigations found drugs and alcohol in her system, unusual blood-spatter evidence, and odd-shaped marks on her scalp. So much so, that we can barely cover the full extent of the mystery in a single episode.
