2021 was an interesting year for pop culture. We take a look at the movies we saw and some of the other pop culture items (TV and books) we took in during the past year.

We used Letterboxd as a partial guide for this, taking Evan’s movie diary list for our outline for most of the episode.

    CELEBRATING 10 YEARS: "Why Sci-Fi?"

    CELEBRATING 10 YEARS: "Why Sci-Fi?"

To celebrate 10 years of the Strangers and Aliens podcast, we’re reposting our first episode! In this episode, Dr. Jayce, Steve, and Ben talk about the question: “Why Sci-Fi?”

This is the episode that started it all. Well, started it all in this corner of the woods, anyway. This is the first time Ben ends the episode with a “Godspeed.” This is the first time that theme music was used. This is the first time these three guys came together to talk about what engages their imagination and their spirit.

To those of you who have listened to the last ten years or the last ten weeks, thank you so much!!!

Steve and Ben explore Venus via the second book in C.S. Lewis’ celebrated “Space Trilogy,” Perelandra.

Published in 1943, Perelandra is the story of a man, Ransom, who is transported to Venus and thrust into a battle he feels ill-equipped to handle. In the process, he becomes part of a cosmic war far bigger than himself.

C.S. Lewis is one of Ben and Steve’s favorite authors, and with his mix of Christianity and science fiction and imagination, this series of books is perhaps the best fit for discussion on a podcast like Strangers and Aliens . . .

Coming soon . . . finishing the trilogy with That Hideous Strength and an episode about the controversial book fragment The Dark Tower.

Nathaniel Thomas McGill ,

Congrats on 10 years!!!

Hey y’all! Congrats… I found your podcast in 2014 on a road trip looking for a “coast to coast am” podcast before there was one. I stubbled on your intro song and have been a fan ever since!!! Rock on guys. Keep it up!

Christianity meets Sci-fi

This is a great podcast for anyone who loves science fiction. With a great cast of hosts you will get various opinions on all kinds of different aspects of science fiction(books, movies, video games, etc). Also, since this podcast is run by some very cool Christian men there are some great episodes about how faith and science fiction work together. Definitely an awesome podcast for the entire family!
