TGT On Topic 286: Chris and Kitty Chat

This week Fletcher is out and Chris and Kitty just chat aimlessly.  They cover playing games in person vs. online.  3D printing.  Marvel Zombicide.  A Hadrian's Wall update.  The next BGA tournament.  Where Chris's favorite games are today.  And bananas.

TGT On Topic 285: Skill Caps

TGT On Topic 285: Skill Caps

This week we look at the opposite of luck: skill.  How much can you get better at games?  Some games are pure skill games, but even then your opponent(s) comes into the question.  But most games do have an amount of luck involved, so when does that start to play more of an effect than your skill?  That's the skill cap. We also draw winners for our Azul prizes. Join our discord!

TGT RPGs 284: RPGs Vs RPGs In A Box

TGT RPGs 284: RPGs Vs RPGs In A Box

This week Spenser joins us as we compare traditional RPGs with the RPGs you may find "in a box."  In other words, a board game that's trying to simulate what a traditional RPG does.  How are they different?  Why are they different?  Why should Chris not play them alone.  And what is it about pickled eggs?

We also draw winners for our Azul prizes.

TGT On Topic 283: Games to Socialize Over

This week Fletcher couldn't join us, so Kitty and Chris spend an hour talking about the next game they are going to play on Tuesday's virtual game night.  The requirements: a game you can play and have a conversation during at the same time.

TGT On Topic 282: Played Out

This week we talk about the games that we used to love but just don't play anymore and why.  And how to avoid playing out a game if that's your goal.  Is playing game out really all that bad?  Probably not, but it was fun to talk about none-the-less.

TGT On Topic 281: Tie Breakers

TGT On Topic 281: Tie Breakers

This week Fletcher leaves Chris with Kitty, who wants to talk about tie breakers and how unfair they are when they make her lose.  Or something like that.  But really, this is a fun one.  Should tie breakers exist?  What makes a good, or bad, tie breaker?  And why do they always feel like an after thought?  (spoiler: because they are)

A Boardgame Podcast to Listen To

Excellent boardgame podcast that isn’t a typical boardgame review podcast. Discussion of boardgame related topics is the Tabletop Game Talk’s focus, not boardgame reviews. Chris, Kitty, and Fletcher (and occasionally Josh) have great chemistry and present a nice diversity of boardgaming perspectives and playing tastes from very casual and lighter games through to heavier games and more hardcore gaming. With over 200 podcast episodes published their commitment to the podcast and their listeners is impressive as they have released a podcast episode every week except for the ever so rare missed Tuesday and they are still producing podcasts discussing interesting topics and clearly having fun doing it. If you are looking for a family friendly boardgame podcast that isn’t another game review podcast, give Tabletop Game Talk a listen.

The people and their games

Podcasts sink or swim based on the hosts’ personalities. TGT succeeds marvelously in this department.
They range from the more casual to the obsessed and offer both wonderfully contrasting opinions and enjoyable banter.
They’ve been on my “The Best” playlist for years.
