Ax Throwing, Being Nice, and The Magic of Slow Moments - With Ann Handley

Ax Throwing, Being Nice, and The Magic of Slow Moments - With Ann Handley

This was one of my favorite interviews ever. Ann was incredibly fun to hang out with. She was also in my top 5 marketers in my "interview bucket list."

During this interview we got personal and talked about how Ann got started in writing, how she connects with her audience and what she does to slow down.

I have an emotional connection with Ann's book 'Everybody Writes.' We talked about my mom, her struggle with cancer and how the words of a professor telling her that she couldn't write deeply affected her and they became the deciding factor on her dropping out of college.

Ann shares how this professor was dead wrong, and that everyone CAN write and she covered some of the basics that you can work on to become a better writer.

On this show we also cover what Ann is most passionate about in marketing, what marketing trends she would kill, what she would do if she had to start over from absolute scratch, and how slowing down and being strategic with your content is going to be key for business success.

Every now and then you get a podcast guest that just blows you away.

For me this guest was Brittlestar (aka Stewart Reynolds).

(seriously I HAD SO MUCH FUN on this one!)

His story is simply amazing because it is quite literally the journey of his entire family - going from just a regular family to becoming internet celebrities.

Hundreds of thousands of people watch Brittlestar’s comedic and family-friendly videos each week. They have been viewed well over 500 MILLION times between all of his social media channels.

I remember seeing one of his first videos on Vine and he walks our listeners through the heartache his family went through when that platform just SHUT DOWN and they lost 1.2 million followers that just disappeared.

Brittlestar shares his best advice to people who are getting started on social media, how to find your authentic voice and he encourages you to go all in and just go for it.

He shares tips on how to monetize a social audience and how to build your brand across multiple platforms (something he has truly mastered)

Minion lover <3 ,

A Page-Turning Podcast?

TAG! is like that great novel you just can't put down at two in the morning. I learned so much from the interview with Fuse executive Dean Petrulakis. My proposals will never be the same, and as for the empty chair we should have at every meeting -- a priceless example of how to build unforgettable customer relationships.

Straight Fire!

I listened to your podcast with Andy Crestodina last night and it was straight fire! You asked really great questions and I found myself continuously stopping to take notes. “Prescription without diagnosis is malpractice”... that’s genius. Also I liked that you ask about failure, I think it’s really important to talk about despite being a conversation everyone likes to shy away from. Awesome podcast! 👏🏻🔥
