(3:10) - What did you charge for services when first starting out?

(11:10) - How did you manage your schedule shifting into full online work?

(14:45) - I have a client I'm currently taking through a reverse diet after a 15 week cut. They just found out they have surgery in 2 weeks, & won't be able to lift for 4 weeks post surgery. Should we increase maintenance fast to promote recovery post surgery or increase slower since movement will be going way down?

(19:23) - What is your recommended window of time for eating prior to a workout? And what situations would cause your recommendations to differ?

(27:30) - Is it natural to have a weaker side of your body? Is it worth it to do an extra rep or two on your weaker side to keep up with your other side?

(30:45) - Can you burn sodium? Does sodium intake really matter?

(39:50) - I am a fairly new in person trainer. I have a client who works a full time job during the week, then also works 3-4 bartending shifts a week where she is always on her feet and often carrying heavy things. She has chronic back pain because she broke her back a few years ago at work and also has major knee issues that she never really did anything for. I’m sure the work on her feet is not helping. She recently lost 30-40 lbs very quickly (in 3-4 months) and said to do it she ate no more than 1000 calories per day and took a few spin classes per week. She is now strength training with me and I’m helping her reverse diet, but I still don’t think she is eating enough to support all of her activity (she’s telling me she’s eating 1200-1500 calories per day). She just was told she tore her calf muscle and it seems to have come out of nowhere. I’m starting to think because she does not rest or recover enough at all between the heavy work on her feet and the strength training sessions her body is starting to force it with this injury. I’ve always heard the body will force you to rest when it has to. Am I correct in thinking this? I’m looking for more guidance on helping her understand her situation and how important it is to rest and eat enough or she’s just going to keep ending up in this cycle. Thank you for any input! Love the podcast and all of your content. I have learned so much from you!

(2:35) - Can you talk about metabolic adaption and obese clients. I know metabolic adaptation and reverse dieting has become a hot topic and as a new coach there are times I'm confused about what's the best approach for my clients when getting started. For example I'll have obese clients coming to me with lots of dieting history and reporting low calorie intake but do you think this is more a matter of under reporting and it's safe to take them right into a fat loss phase? I've heard recently that it's less likely that metabolic adaptation is occuring in those with lots of weight to still lose. Do you have any thoughts on this?

(18:25) - Hey Cody! Love the podcast. Can we get Shannen on? Might be cool to hear the perspective of a “fitness spouse” and she seems super cool!

(26:30) - I’ve asked y’all a million questions before and I appreciate the answers! I’m really struggling with depression and food. I know in my mind that I’m over eating and logically I know overeating is keeping me from losing weight. (which I desperately need to lose). Why am I struggling so much?! Tips or advice on depression and food.

(34:40) - Hi! Long time listener and LOVE how easy your pods are to listen to! To preface, I’ve been seriously lifting for 12 years (exercise science major, competed at 21). I’m 33, I was a firefighter and now am going to school for nursing. I went from extremely active plus admittedly overdoing cardio to super sedentary for school. I still do 1-2 hours of steady state cardio a day and lift 4x a week but I’ve already gotten so fluffy :( I have tracked calories for years, so I’ve even bumped them down to 1200! This isn’t even sustainable and I don’t know what else I can do, just accept this season of life? Or do you think my body will adjust?

(40:10) - Because I’m new in my business, how do I figure out what to implement first when there's so much that could be implemented?

809 - Benefits of Fasting vs. Calorie Deficit, Helping Children Diet, and More...

In this Q&A, we dive into some misconceptions around dieting for your somatotype, whether or not fasting is actually healthy for you as you age (and why that might be), how to tell if you're actually building muscle or just gaining body fat, the most optimal ways to individualize progressive overload TO YOU, and a conversation around kids using dieting strategies at too early of an age (and what to do, instead).

3:00 - Thoughts on eating for your somatotype (ectomorph, mesomorph, endomorph). Does the macro split matter?

12:30 - Is fasting for 18hours a day healthy for you at 45 years old?

19:10 - How do I know if the weight I am gaining is fat or muscle? I just started your body building workout for women. I’m 2 weeks in. I have been training consistently for well over 10 years, but this program is nothing like what I’ve done before and am loving it. I am eating 1830 cals (5’4” - 133lbs). I have gained 4lbs in the past month, but also started bio identical HRT a month ago as well. My measurements are all the same except for my waist, which is up. I am open to the idea of building muscle and gaining weight, but I just want to make sure it’s the right weight- at least some of it! Would love and appreciate your thoughts on this.

30:00 - I swim 4 days per week for 40 min and do an upper lower split, with the primary goal of muscle growth. Is this optimal?

33:20 - What is more important, form or progressive overload for hypertrophy?

47:00 - My 16year old son recently downloaded MyFitnessPal, and started a food diary. He has seen me do this, so I definitely feel responsible. What are your thoughts on teens and calorie counting? I don’t want to make it an issue, which will make him defiant. I do want to support his fitness goals without things becoming obsessive. He is also starting resistance training. What would you do/suggest in this situation?

Great episode

I feel like you did this podcast for me!! I so appreciate the information about a lean bulk. I’m one of those that is afraid to gain to build muscle because the scale goes up! 🤦‍♀️ this was so helpful!

Must listen for all fitness enthusiasts and fitness pros!

Top notch 👌

Chick FO ,

Thank you Cody!!!

Cody is so passionate about fitness and nutrition. He shares so much free information here! I joined the Tailored Trainer program for less than $2 a day! He program is fantastic and he has so much to choose from! He does have quite a few 4 letter words in his podcasts so it’s difficult to listen to when my children are around. That’s my only criticism.

I’ve been listening for years and Cody and Travis literally get better and better! Love this podcast! So educational…..so many things to learn! Love it
