With the current emphasis being on it is all about the guns, this episode will add a strong pitch for tough gun crime penalties. That is the subject of today’s short-form episode.
It is always dangerous and wrong to ascribe responsibility 100% to any person or group; there is always shared responsibility. It is as true in ending gun violence as it is anywhere else. “It is all about the guns,” is just as wrong as, “It is all about the criminals. With the current emphasis being on it is all about the guns, this episode will add a strong pitch for tough gun crime penalties.

The announced purpose of various levels of proposed additional gun control laws is to reduce gun crime. The ten of thousands of gun laws on the books are obviously not doing much to reduce gun crime, which is why we need more. And the proposed and recently enacted laws will also accomplish little. Here is a different approach: enact and enforce tough gun use laws. The point here is to attack the criminals doing the crimes: To take a whack out of gun violence, take a whack out of the criminals.

Post WWII in Berlin, Russia engaged in one of its many and continuing attempts to expand its land, power and influence by harming millions of others. The US responded with the heroic and surprisingly successful Berlin Airlift, saving Berlin from the vengeful grip of Joseph Stalin.
At the same time, then US Army pilot Gary Halvorsen became famnous for being the Candy Comber, delighting and encouraging the children, their parents and all of Berlin by “bombing” the hungry, deprived children of Berlin with tons of candy. This sequence of events had started with the Allied bombing of Berlin during the war, moved to the Soviet post war aggression, then onto the Airlift, next to the Candy Bombing, to, eventually, freedom for all Germans. Each step played a critical part. Recently the legend of the Candy Bomber was honored when a modern group brought in critical supplies to beleaguered Ukraine in the name of the Candy Bomber.

Today, each of us, in our own way, can be a Candy Bomber, bringing delight and hope to anyone or any group in our lives. What is your way? What could be your way of doing exactly that?

"Believe all women," hurts MeToo. Fair trials with competent attorneys on both sides support both justice and MeToo. No coincidence. That is the subject of today's short-form episode.
The Johnny Depp/Amber Heard celebrity abuse and poop spectacle proved a few things:

1. The Enquirer and Star magazines are tame by comparison.
2. The bizarre admonition that we should, “Believe all women,” should never have been uttered, much less insisted upon, as a way of adjudicating abuse claims made by women against men.
3. MeToo is strongly intact. MeToo was not on trial. Amber Heard was, and she lied many times about key issues.

"Enough is Enough" is an empty phrase, right up there with “Do Something!” We need implementable specifics, or it is all just posturing. That is the subject of today's short-form episode.
An empty phrase, right up there with “Do Something!” Unless the people and groups shouting these sentiments are willing to:
1. Detail exactly what changes need to be made.
2. Work through how they would be implemented.
3. Outline how these changes would create the desired results.
4. Accurately define terms like assault weapons and be clear about what you want to ban or further restrict.
5. Stop using phrases like “We need gun control,” implying that we do not already have tens of thousands of laws on the books. And stop the accusatory, self-righteous cliche wars like, “Republicans want to save fetuses and kill children,” and, “Democrats are fascists who want to take your guns and  control your speech.”
6. Stop making “need” an argument against gun ownership. No one needs a vacation home, or a sports car, a $500K annual income, or a 3K square foot home.

…then the shouting on both sides is nothing but self-serving grandstanding, guaranteed to squash any fixes.

Take 10 With Will Luden is centered on blending personal responsibility with being our Brother's Keepers. Blended, because neither stands alone. When this is done well, and we talk about how to do that, we create better lives for ourselves, our communities and the nation.

I have been podcasting for years, pulling together my decades of experience as a high-tech CEO, two years by the banks of the Charles River in the Harvard B-School, 3 years, 2 months and 25 days (but who’s counting?) in the Army, including 27 months in the Far East, and a lifetime of rich experiences, including many successes as well as failures, to deliver insights, well researched facts, questions and calls to action. These episodes will give you specific information, combined with ways to think things through, that you can use to clarify and grow your thinking on the issues of the day. And to know how to take action on the issues that are important to you.
 
I focus on culture, because politics is downstream from culture. I touch on religion because culture is downstream from religion. A recurring theme is that we, not they, are the ones who need to make things work. We are the people in charge, not the politicians. We, not the corporate chieftains. We, not our neighbors. We. Us. Together. We make it happen, or it happens to us.
