Hello Everyone!

Welcome to the introduction episode of Takeaways – the podcast.

Why am I doing this?

Early 2017, I started sharing my Takeaways from the various (business and real estate) events that I attend throughout the year. It has been incredibly fulfilling.

I started listening to podcasts in 2016 when Malcom Gladwell released Revisionist History. Then I found Seth Godin’s Start Up School. Now I’m a regular – James Altucher is my current favorite.

The other catalyst for me leaping in the podcasting world was enrolling in Seth Godin’s altMBA. It’s a 30 day online workshop all about leveling up. Doing. And demonstrating how capable we are in creating.

So here goes…

I get to attend incredible events all year long as part of my work. There are always Takeaways. I share those on my blog.

I am also blessed to be around remarkable people. There too are always Takeaways to learn. That is what I am sharing on this podcast. Takeaways – Life. Lessons. Learned. explores learning from the wisdom of others.

The show format will be me and a guest. Varied guests. Like a commercial real estate developer, Senior Pastor of a mega church here in Las Vegas, business coach, fraternity executive, police captain, physician and oh-so-many more!

My guests and I will talk, tell stories, and even perform spoken word poetry. The topics covered will include, stature, grief, having valuable conversations, drive vs. ambition, moments of influence. Who knows what else we will learn? Who knows what might be shared that will inspire your next great creation or achievement?

I will share and explore Takeaways that I have learned from the people who have influenced me. At the very least I hope you will be entertained. At the very best you will find value in these Takeaways and will use them to do something meaningfully awesome!

Rod Santomassimo created his own category in the commercial real estate coaching space. There is simply no one else that is doing what he and his team are doing at The Massimo Group. I have purchased all 3 of his books, subscribe and read his blog, and have put agents through his New 2 Business program. It is clear that I am a fan.

Over the course of my 30-day commitment to help my fellow #cre agents who needed motivation, new ideas, or a kick in the tuchas I gave out Rod's name more than any other. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to have him on Takeaways.

Listen in or watch as we discuss what Rod is seeing from agents across the country during this crisis. He shares how he persevered the loss of his best friend and job at the time, how to overcome impostor syndrome and a fantastic Jim Rohn quote!

What else can you learn from a person like Rod? Here are just a few of the Takeaways that we discussed in this episode.

    • The three reactions he's seen from agents across the country.
    • How the same strategy he used for his book 9 years ago can be deployed today by a new agent for property sales.
    • What are the three C's it takes to be successful?

John Sanders asked me if I would record an episode for his podcast. I didn't know the significance of the ask until he shared this was to be his 20th show. Quite a benchmark!

John called me about 6 months ago. He was stuck. He wanted to get his podcast launched but was wrestling with some things. We spent about 30 minutes on the phone. I asked him questions to help him get clarity. I offered some tips that helped me get from concept to launch. I asked him to commit to a date for when he would launch (accountability).

All of a sudden, here he is on episode 20!

Listen in as John asked me about the origins of my commercial real estate journey and how I ended up at MDL Group. This episode is jam-packed with riffs about having a relaunch plan, finding things you're passionate about, and how to gamify your day to stay motivated during tough times!

What else can you learn from my discussion with John? Here are just a few of the Takeaways that we discussed in this episode.

What are the things you can do during these times to thrive?
If you can't capture market share, how do you capture mind-share?
What do I see in the crystal ball?

    I hope you enjoy!

Takeaways Podcast - S3:E39 - Julie Youngblood: Change How You Keep Score

Takeaways Podcast - S3:E39 - Julie Youngblood: Change How You Keep Score

Takeaways – Life. Lessons. Learned. explores learning from the wisdom of others.

This is a special edition of Takeaways. I am committed to helping my fellow commercial real estate agents thrive during these times. You can find a new post every day from April 1st to April 30th on my FACEBOOK and LINKEDIN. If you need motivation or new ideas take a look. I am here to help!

Julie Youngblood is many things. A Realtor. A coach. A proud mom and dedicated wife. A motivator!

Have you ever been around someone who has the innate ability to motivate those around her? You would know it if you have. And you wouldn't forget it.

In 2014 I was elected President of Commercial Alliance Las Vegas. That gave me a seat on the Las Vegas Realtor Board. It was a trying year for the association. In particular, was a pending lawsuit from a couple years prior. The board selected 3 "disinterested third parties" to conduct the internal investigation. That meant current board members that were not on the board at the time of the alleged infraction.

I sunk into my chair when I was selected. I and the others were presented a mountain of files that we were being asked to review. "Are you f*cking kidding", was the thought that went through my mind. Before I could think, or feel, anything else Julie did what Julie does. She got us all fired up about the task. She even made me believe I was going to enjoy it.

Julie motivated me. And I never forgot it!

Listen in or watch as we revisit this story. Julie also shares what she is seeing in the market and gives me a real life-coaching session!

What else can you learn from a person like Julie? Here are just a few of the Takeaways that we discussed in this episode.

    • What uncertainty means to leaders.
    • How to break down annual achievements to daily activities.
    • What does accountability really look like.

    I hope you enjoy!

I got my real estate license in 2004. Not long after I read an article in the Las Vegas Review Journal about this guy name Mark Stark who outbid a Warren Buffet affiliated company to buy a local real estate business. "What is he thinking?", I thought.

The rest of the story has also been well documented in local newspapers. Mark went through the ashes of hell during the Great Global Recession and came back to thrive!

As the CEO and owner/broker of Berkshire Hathaway Home Services in Nevada, Arizona and California, Mark's operation is the 3rd largest within the BHHS network. He leads 40 offices in the 3 states, 3,300 Sales Executives, selling over 13,000 homes a year to the tune of $5.6 billion dollars in transaction value.

Listen in or watch as we discuss how Mark is approaching the current crisis. He shares what the greatest Sales Executives are doing right now to thrive. And what you can do to come out of this crisis as a winner!

What else can you learn from a person like Mark? Here are just a few of the Takeaways that we discussed in this episode.

    • Why it's critical to have a plan. Even if it's the wrong plan.
    • How your attitude will drive everything!
    • What does it mean to live in an "and" world?

    I hope you enjoy!

Takeaways Podcast - S3:E37 - Greta Schulz: Sales Ideas to Thrive Amidst COVID

Takeaways – Life. Lessons. Learned. explores learning from the wisdom of others.

This is a special edition of Takeaways. I am committed to helping my fellow commercial real estate agents thrive during these times. You can find a new post every day from April 1st to April 30th on my Facebook and LinkedIn. If you need motivation or new ideas take a look. I am here to help!

ATTENTION, this episode has a special, no strings offer from my guest. It is time sensitive (time-sensitive). More details at the bottom.

December 2018 I heard a Vistage speaker talk about sales. I realized, after hearing this subject matter expert talk for 3 hours about a "sales process", that I don't have one despite being in sales all of my professional life.

MDL Group set out to find a consultant to help us take our sales processes to ninja levels. That's how we found Greta Schulz and started working with her Februaru (her in February) 2019.

Greta is president and CEO of Schulz Business SELLutions based in West Palm Beach, FL. She has been involved in sales, sales management, marketing, and training for almost thirty years. She is an author, trainer, speaker, and so much more!

Greta has been working with MDL Group as a company, and each of our agents 1 on 1, for the last 13 months. Why am I so confident and thriving during these times? I credit Greta for much of those reasons.

Listen in or watch as we discuss some of the best tips you can be applying in your business.

What else can you learn from a person like Greta? Here are just a few of the Takeaways that we discussed on (in) this episode.

    • How to be purposeful in your prospecting and sales now and forever.
    • How to transform your networking to Next Level!
    • What are the 7 key steps to a sales conversation?

As an added bonus, here is the special offer that Greta extended!
For commercial real estate agents in Southern Nevada, if there are extra spots, I will invite agents from our CORFAC International network to participate.

Greta has designed a specific 4 week (4-week) curriculum. Participants will receive 4 video modules on the topics below. They will get access to Greta for a weekly group conference call to discuss the material and how to apply in (it in) their businesses.

    What are the topics?

    1. Sales Process Overview
    2. Next Level Networking
    3. Creating Strong Strategic Alliances
    4. How to Make a Proper Cold/Warm Call

    How to apply?

    • Email me at hm@mdlgroup.com with the subject Greta Rocks!
    • Simply tell me in the body of the email 1. what is working in your business and 2. what you might need help with.
    • Deadline to email me is Friday, April 10th at 3:00 pm PST.
    • There is a limited number of seats available.

    I hope you enjoy!
